EMPACT-SPC (Suicide Prevention Center), a member agency of La Frontera Arizona, is an industry leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing valued community services and resources for behavioral health counseling, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention since 1987. We are looking for a full-time Trauma Therapist based in our Tempe office. Responsibilities include providing individual counseling sessions to victims and their families, facilitating group treatment services, providing personal advocacy, collaborating with the victim on safety planning and treatment goals, providing risk assessments and appropriate interventions, and coordinating services with EMPACT-SPC case manager/advocate and mobile crisis teams. Therapist will coordinate services with agency staff and other behavioral health, law enforcement and public agencies as requested by the victim. Candidate must demonstrate ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, and recognize personal limitations. Candidate must possess the ability to represent agency in professional manner. Candidate should have prior experience which demonstrates ability to understand the needs of victims and their families, empower victims to make positive choices, and relate positively to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation. Spanish language ability preferred.



  1. Provide individual/family psychotherapy and group treatment services as assigned. This includes providing individual psychotherapy sessions to victims and their families, facilitating group treatment services, providing personal advocacy, collaborating with the victim on safety planning and treatment goals, providing risk assessments and appropriate interventions, and coordinating services with EMPACT case manager/advocate and mobile crisis teams.
  2. Coordinates services with EMPACT staff and other behavioral health, police, court affiliated, and public agencies as requested by the victim.
  3. Provides and delivers assigned 40 hours of work per week. Evening and weekend hours may be required to accommodate the schedules of families. Attends meetings and trainings outside of regularly scheduled work hours as requested.
  4. Ensures quality service delivery including clinical care and all associated documentation. Maintains all client records in accordance with agency policies and procedures. This includes appropriate intake documentation, endangerment triaging, diagnosis, treatment planning, and referral, progress, risk planning, termination documentation, and interagency reports.
  5. Recommends to the Clinical Coordinator or Program Manager changes that would improve service delivery and for implementing changes and new programming as directed by the Clinical Coordinator or Program Manager. Selects and develops one specialized function related to the development of department services.
  6. Provides comprehensive services to clients and assists the Clinical Coordinator or Program Manager in coordinating communication with other departments of the agency in accomplishing continuity of care.
  7. Provides instruction and training for interns, contract staff, and regular staff in his/her respective discipline as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Program Manager.
  8. Maintains valid Arizona driver license, appropriate liability insurance and approval for liability coverage with EMPACTs liability insurance carrier.
  9. Provides and delivers assigned special projects during on-call shifts on weekly basis. Follow THS special projects procedures for overnight special project calls. Includes providing mobile crisis assessment, intervention services, and in home support services to clients throughout Maricopa and surrounding counties.
  10. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other sexual assault department staff, mobile team staff, other departmental staff, and all related state, community mental health, and contracting organizations.
  11. Participates in all regularly scheduled administrative, in-service and staff meetings.
  12. Participates in standing and ad hoc committees and work groups as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Program Manager.
  13. Adheres to the agency's policies and procedures. Complies with the agency's standard of care for service delivery. Assists with Quality Management, Quality Assurance, and Utilization Review.
  14. Performs additional related duties as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Program Manager.
  15. Maintains professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and the policies and procedures of the agency.
  16. Participates in agency fund raising activities as requested by management.

Experience/Education

  • Spanish Language ability preferred.
  • Master's Degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or directly related field is required.
  • Must be certified by AzBBHE with associate licensure or able to obtain within 6 months.
  • Need knowledge of effective therapeutic interventions in individual and group settings.
  • Need comprehensive understanding of the effects of significant trauma and principles of Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Need effective self-care within a potentially stressful client environment.
  • Need understanding of community and agency resources with motivation to advocate for clients needs.
  • Requires ability to communicate clearly, facilitate public presentations and maintain timely clinical documentation.
  • Familiarity with Maricopa County community resources is preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency through experience with diverse minority populations is preferred.
  • Fingerprint clearance card required or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
