Job Description Summary

As an Underwriting Manager working for Taylor Morrison your primary responsibilities include guiding the underwriters to daily, weekly and monthly production goals, while ensuring the quality and integrity of the loans are maintained. The position is responsible for direct supervisory duties of department staff and coordinates staff for coverage in all related areas of the department. The Underwriting Manager will be responsible for having one-on-one coaching sessions with the team members to instill awareness of the team member's goals, any challenges or areas of focus, and ensuring opportunities are addressed with a plan identified for success. The Underwriting Manager promotes quality mortgage loans and directs communication with team members including Management, Loan Consultants, Client Coordinators and Closers.

We trust that as an Underwriting Manager you will: (responsibilities)

  • Managing workflow in the department to ensure that acceptable turn-times are maintained and communicates daily turn times to Loan Consultants, Client Coordinators and Management
  • Develop, track and monitor underwriters prior to advancement of next level underwriting authority
  • Underwrites loans as needed
  • Manages a high performance team of professionally trained and motivated staff through effective performance management and career-development activities; lead team in achieving People Services/talent metrics
  • Ensure that Underwriting personnel are adequately trained and educated, and have the skills necessary to be accountable for their work
  • Work with Senior AVP Underwriting to ensure that the right talent is in place to achieve strategic targets by dedicating time and resources to staffing, talent management and capability building
  • Work with Senior AVP Underwriting to assess the Underwriting departments current capacity and capabilities against future objectives and requirements, and formulates a strategy to build required competencies through internal development and recruitment
  • Work with Senior AVP Underwriting to address resource limitations by ensuring workload is effectively allocated, roles are clearly defined, interdependencies are understood, team members are satisfied with their jobs, and valued-added programs and associated resources-whether through additional headcount or outsourcing- can be justified to executive management

About you: (requirements)

  • 6 years of underwriting experience with experience in a lead or supervisor capacity and a strong emphasis on coaching and development required; bachelors degree and management experience in underwriting preferred
  • Must have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of underwriting guidelines and correspondent overlays
  • Thorough knowledge of all mortgage industry departments
  • Intermediate Microsoft suite proficient
  • Problem solving
  • Conflict resolution
  • Experienced with new construction residential financing
  • Business process experience
  • Comprehensive experience with mortgage processing artificial intelligence and automation

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Will have responsibilities such as:

  • This position is considered a non-exempt position for purposes of wage-hour law, which means that you will be required to keep a time record and will be eligible for overtime pay.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time
  • The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
