JOB SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking for an experienced Unit Assistant in Women's Clinic

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of unit leadership, provides administrative support for assigned patient unit. Answers telephone and intercom calls, providing routine, approved information, and relays other calls and messages. Interviews patient to obtain information necessary to complete the admission process in specific departments.

Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance. Adheres to all Steward Healthcare policies on Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).

People

Collaborates with care team to arrange and\or assist with administrative\clinical patient needs.

Greets and directs patients and unit visitors. Maintains customer focused relationships with patients, families

and physicians. Answers telephone calls, responds to routine inquiries, and relays other calls and messages. Responds to calls in a professional, customer focused manner and notifies appropriate persons.

Quality

Completes annual education requirements. Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency

validation requirements. Promotes of a culture of patient safety which results in the

identification and reduction of unsafe practices. Identifies risks to patients with actions taken to prevent patient

harm.

Interacts with bed control regarding bed vacancies and placement information. Records and expedites admission, transfer and discharge of patients.

Assists department\unit manager and resource nurse with staffing issues. Prepares reports and forms for incoming shift and for other departments.

Accesses other computer applications to provide support to team members meeting continuum of care needs.

Maintains patient and physical environment in a clean and orderly condition.

Uses analytical skills necessary to maintain admission and transfer records and gather various hospital statistics.

Listen to and honor patient and family perspectives and choices. Acknowledge the patients and familys knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds to ensure they are incorporated into the planning and delivery of care.

Communicate and share complete and unbiased information with the patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful. Ensure that patients and families receive timely, complete, and accurate information to effectively participate in care and decision making.

Encourage and support patients and families in participating in care and decision making at the level they choose.

Collaborate with patients, families, healthcare practitioners, and healthcare leaders in policy and program development, implementation and evaluation in facility design, in professional education, as well as delivery of care.

Understands that a solution may create a new way of doing things that is not how it has always been done, but is the right thing to do.

Takes ownership of a patient safety related issue and openly acknowledges an ongoing problem requiring attention.

Finance

Prevents waste of resources while ensuring quality patient care. Assists department\unit manager in scheduling and time keeping of Associates to prevent payroll irregularities.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
WORK EXPERIENCE:

Technical, clerical, interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area.

Certification requirements as defined by the certification policy.

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.


EDUCATION & TRAINING:


High school diploma or GED.

One year work experience in a similar environment

PREFERRED

Bi or Multilingual.

Clerical skills such as typing, computer knowledge and general medical Terminology.

Previous unit assistant experience

Experience in Acute Care facility
