TITLE/CODE: Vehicle Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Building and Fleet

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Vehicle Maintenance Coordinator performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to Blood Center vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned. Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.

  • Perform preventive maintenance such as changing fluids and filters, brake rebuilding, tune-ups transmission service, tire rotation; perform repairs on vehicles such as electrical, brakes, cooling system, transmission, air conditioning, minor vehicle equipment repairs, etc.

  • Identify reported vehicle problems.

  • Inspect vehicles on a routine basis.

  • Account for tools and supplies, making purchases as instructed.

  • Log vehicle mileage and check fuel levels.

  • Maintain Vehicle Maintenance area and assist with special projects and reports upon request.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school Diploma or GED; minimum two years previous job related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of an automotive technical program or automotive maintenance program is preferred. Requires operation of equipment associated with vehicle repair.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Texas Driver's License (CDL); if not one must be obtained within 60 days of employment, plus acceptable driving record.

D.O.T. certified in brake inspection and repair

Must meet standards of The Blood Centers Vehicle Safety Program

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have the ability to handle minor documentation and paperwork regarding fleet records as well as work orders. This position is subject to "on-call" duties.

Computer Literate: must have familiarity with using computers.

Position requires frequent driving or moving of the fleet. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
