      Vet Tech II 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist the veterinarians and technicians in all aspects of the AHS clinics including front and back office duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Check in/check out patients for surgery.
  2. Assist veterinarians and technicians in the evaluation, surgery, and recovery of spay/neuter and preventive wellness care for patients.
  3. Able to confidently perform anesthesia, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections and medication.
  4. Also must be proficient with front desk reception activities, such as answering multiple phone lines, filing, money handling, computer and customer service skills.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma OR equivalent experience.
  2. Prefer completion of 2 year Associates Veterinarian Technician program.
  3. Strong animal handling skills.
  4. Minimum of 2 years' experience as a working Veterinary Technician or Assistant preferred.
  5. Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, pharmacology, endocrinology, anesthesiology, surgical assisting, animal handling, and anatomy and physiology.
  6. Able to pay attention to details and complete paperwork quickly and accurately

Language Skills: Able to speak, read and write English; Spanish language helpful.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical skills.

Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid AZ Driver's License and insurance.

Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications: Regular attendance. Access to reliable transportation. The person in this position interacts daily with the public, clinic staff and other shelter personnel.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
