DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Veterinarian Assistant assists the Veterinarian during surgical procedures, including spaying/neutering of
dogs, cats, and pre-pubescent animals; assists in providing emergency and non-emergency care of sheltered
animals; and assists in evaluating health and vital statistics of impounded animals.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :Schedules appointments for clients for exams or spay/neuter process and con?rms appointments as
established; performs required tasks in preparation for exam or surgery.Input owner and animal information and any related reports/pictures into the Programs database system.
Helps prepare animals for surgery or spay/neuter and monitors animals during recovery, records Vitals and
informs the Veterinarian if trouble is suspected.Maintains medical charts (hard copies and automated) and assists in tracking of information in order to submit
an end of month report; maintains pharmaceutical logs along with supply and equipment inventory as required.Deal with all aspects of exam/ surgery room set-up, breakdown and maintenance.Prepares medications for patients, these include refills, post-examination, and post-surgery as directed by
Veterinarian.Responsible for the sterilization of all surgery related items and placing speci?c instruments into appropriate
clean wraps for use in future surgeries.Assist in the scheduling, set up and conducting of vaccination clinics; assist in the special events which may
involve weekend and evenings as needed.Clinic care to include cleaning kennels, laundry, trash, and other similar duties.
Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge of report preparation and record keeping.
0 Knowledge of modern office practices and equipment, especially computers and computer software
(Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).Skill in lifting and handling animals in preparation of exam and pre & post-surgery.Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.Ability to perform a variety of general clerical work.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.

High School diploma or GED and one (1) year work experience in a general practice veterinary hospital or
veterinary clinic handling and caring for animals.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Required to pass a background check.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record
for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
