Position Summary

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, locatedin Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a VisitingLecturer I or II in Cosmetology/Barbering. We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of NewMexico and serve approximately 2200 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque,UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation,Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. Thecity of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide anabundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinarycultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.

UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ fulltime and part-time faculty members. Weare fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associatedegrees, selected Bachelors degrees, Career Technical Education certificateprograms, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personalenrichment courses. UNM-Gallup servesmultiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle CollegeHigh School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding ourprograms, engaging with our community, establishing multiple endowments andgrant opportunities while hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a full-time courseload in the area of Cosmetology/Barbering, maintain an active service record(as defined by the UA-UNM CBA), participate in monthly Division meetings andexecute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the divisionchair in an annual faculty-chair agreement. In addition, the selected candidatewill be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, andinclusion through actively practicing inclusive behavior and proactivelymanaging bias.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Cosmetology License through the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists
  • Three years full-time work experience as acosmetologist or barber

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Instructors/Teaching licenses through the New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.
  • Two years demonstration experience teaching cosmetology and/or barbering in an educational setting.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
