STATUS: FT Hourly

The Salvation Army Phoenix Family Services is looking to fill a Vocational Services Coordinator position. The successful candidate for this position will have strong interpersonal and mentoring skills with the proven ability to motivate others. This position is benefit eligible and comes with vacation, sick, health, vision, life insurance, free membership and more.  

This position oversees management of career development program components consisting of job search training, job placement assistance, employer cultivation, and coordination. The Vocational Services Coordinator is responsible to see that all activities of the Career Education Center are carried out in accordance with policies and directives of The Salvation Army. This position is also responsible for the activities of the men and women residents during the scheduled times that such residents are in the Career Education Center.

QUALFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field required
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in working with the homeless or substance abuse population
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills with proven ability to motivate others
  • Understanding of organization-related issues
  • Ability to coordinate a multitude of activities to meet schedules, goals, and objectives
  • Computer proficiency in Windows environment appropriate to position
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and general public
  • Should demonstrate ethical leadership with a strong commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Trustworthy with confidential material and information
  • Flexible schedule, position may require some weekend events
  • Valid Arizona State driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 85 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
