Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position provides non-denominational emotional support to Pinal County Patrol Deputies, Detention Deputies, Administrative staff members, and County employees. This position will also provide 24-hour service to the citizens of Pinal County, during emergency or crisis situations involving the Sheriff's Office. After completing the required training courses the volunteer will be on a rotation on-call basis to provide intervention, spiritual, and crisis support services. The volunteer chaplain will exercise knowledge and judgment in analyzing facts or circumstances surrounding specific crisis issues and will respond in all situations in an expansive spiritual manner. Discretion and confidentiality is required in all situations. The volunteer chaplain will adhere to the application of policies, procedures and PCSO guidelines. The decision made by the volunteer effect the work of the department. The volunteer is under the supervision of the PCSO Chaplain and the Volunteer Service Coordinator. No deviation from standard, established intervention processes is acceptable without prior approval.
This position will function as a probationary position for the first full year of service after completing required training/certification.

Minimum Requirements

PREFERRED QUALS:
The applicant must be a minister who is credentialed by a recognized ecclesiastic body, either ordained or licensed. Or hold the equivalent of five years in a leadership position in a Church, Synagogue, Mosque or other religious institution recognized as an organization gathered for the purpose of religious instruction according to the Internal Revenue Service Code 501C-3.

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age, a United Stated citizen or legal resident.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Must have transportation
  • Must possess proof of current auto insurance
  • Must complete the Ecclesiastic credential review
  • Must successfully complete the PCSO Basic Volunteer Training Course
  • Must be certified through the PCSO Chaplaincy Training Course
  • Must successfully pass and complete background examination, as well as a Truth Verification Exam CVSA.
  • Must successfully complete oral interviews
  • Must complete an initial ride-a-long with a PCSO Deputy and periodic ride-a-longs thereafter

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS:
This is a voluntary unpaid position.
Upon review and approval of your application, you will be contacted for an oral board interview.

  • Commitment of one year of service for volunteer
  • Commitment of one semester for interns
  • Commitment of a minimum of 16 volunteer hours per month, on average
  • Commitment to attend ongoing meetings, in-service training and education workshops.
  • On-call status with respect to your hours of availability and location
  • Travel to the location of intervention
  • May be witness to stressful situations
