Classification Summary:

In order to function as a PCSO Patrol Posse Member, applicants must have satisfactorily completed all phases of the Patrol Posse Academy as well as the Field Officers Training program. Upon completion of this training the Member will be considered a Level III Patrol Posse Member authorizing them to operate county marked vehicles, carry an authorized sidearm, and have received command clearance to serve as a Patrol Posse Member in good standing.

Patrol Posse Members perform duties of moderate difficulty in multiple areas of service. The volunteers will follow directions from the Posse Command Staff and, while on patrol duty, all PCSO sworn personnel. The work produced must adhere to the highest levels of responsibility and accountability. No deviation from standard, established process or procedure is acceptable without prior approval. This position requires the volunteer to perform a minimum of 16 hours per month (not including meetings and training)

Example of Duties

Job Functions:

  • Provide service to the citizens of Pinal County.
  • Provide Law Enforcement Presence
  • Provide assistance to sworn deputies and officers in their law enforcement duties.
  • Patrol as a one or two person unit.
  • Provide security services at special events, crime scenes etc.
  • Provide traffic control as necessary.
  • Transport arrestees, victims or witnesses as needed.
  • Assist in Agency Response and large scale emergency or disaster situations as requested.
  • Assist with Command Post and DUI van operations.
  • Assist with Patrol Posse specialized training teams.
  • Attend ongoing training, safety, proficiencies and qualifications, OJT, firearms and tactical training sessions.
  • Attend and pass all regularly scheduled proficiency training sessions
  • Provide monthly reports for on-duty times.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Requirements

Required Qualification:

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Must possess proof of citizenship
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver license
  • Must possess current proof of current automobile insurance at all times.
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of Graduation from the Posse Academy.
  • Must have transportation.
  • Must complete oral interviews.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a background examination as well as a Truth Verification exam, urine analysis and psychological examination. All background appointments must be scheduled no later than 10/08/2021.
  • Must not have any felony convictions.
Supplemental Information

Special Information to Applicants:

The Posse Academy runs four to five months long (usually January through May). Classes are held at the PCSO training building in back of the Sheriff's Office in Florence, AZ. Classes are held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings and on Saturdays. During the second month of the Academy there will be at least 3 weekends when firearms classes will be held on Saturdays and Sundays.

Posse members identified to carry firearms must demonstrate weapons proficiency with PCSO issued firearms through an annual firearm training exam.

Graduates from the Patrol Posse Academy will be issued a basic uniform, ballistic vest, traffic vest, radio and miscellaneous uniform items. The graduates must provide, at their own expense, the rest of their equipment including their sidearm, duty belt and additional accessories. It is expected that the cost to the individual could run as high as $2500.

This is voluntary unpaid position.

  • Commitment of one year of service, upon graduation from the Posse Academy.
  • Commitment of a minimum of 16 hours per month (Meetings and training not included).
  • Commitment to attend ongoing in-service training and education workshops.
  • Commitment to attend all scheduled meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see and read; hear and speak to communicate with citizens in person and over the phone. The ability to communicate effectively, interrogate and interview people, discern noises that may require investigation, and perform telephone and radio communication; perform surveillance, sight and shoot a firearm safely and effectively, gather evidence at crime scenes, and coordinate and conduct detailed investigations. The ability to, perform search activities for extended periods of time, and perform all duties required in a law enforcement environment.
