JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position provides direct assistance and services to victims or witnesses of crime. The volunteer, after successfully completing the required training, is contacted on an on-call basis to provide intervention, services, referral sources, and comfort to victims of crime. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of the needs of crime victims, intervention techniques, and referral sources, as well as protocol and procedures. The volunteer exercises judgment in analyzing facts or circumstances surrounding specific case issues. Discretion is required in the application of policies, procedures, and guidelines in selection of appropriate resources for use in meeting the immediate, non-medical needs of the victim(s). The decision made by the volunteer effect the work of the department. The volunteer is under supervision of the PCSO Volunteer Services Coordinator and the Victim Services Coordinator. No deviation from standard, established intervention processes is acceptable without prior approval.
Volunteer must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Any combination of formal training, certification and life experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be acceptable.

Minimum Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age, a United Stated citizen or legal resident.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License. Arizona Driver's License preferred
  • Must have transportation
  • Must possess proof of current auto insurance, at all times
  • Must be certified through the PCSO Victim Service Training Course
  • Must successfully pass and complete background examination, as well as a Truth Verification Exam CVSA.
  • Must complete oral interviews

NOTES TO APPLICANTS:

  • This is a voluntary unpaid position.
  • Upon review and approval of your application, you will be contacted for an oral board interview.
  • Commitment of one year of service for volunteers
  • Commitment of one semester for interns
  • Commitment of a minimum of 16 volunteer hours per month, on average
  • Commitment to attend ongoing meetings, in-service training and education workshops.
  • On-call status with respect to your hours of availability and location
  • Travel to the location of crime victim(s)
  • May be witness to stressful situations
