DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Water Plant Operator performs skilled operational duties in water treatment facilities throughout the Gila
River Indian Community. Duties include monitoring, operating, adjusting, and light maintenance of equipment;
performs daily monitoring and control of water facilities, utilizing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
(SCADA) systems. Facilities include Reverse Osmosis Plant remote facilities, wells, booster stations, and water
storage facilities. This position is stationed at the Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater
Treatment Facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Monitor plant process and equipment by reading gauges, graphs, meters, SCADA screens and control panels;
change plant operations to adjust to processing needs by adjusting pumps, ?ow valve and chemical feeder
systems.Perform and evaluate a variety of laboratory and chemical tests; collect water samples; document results and
take appropriate action; compile and maintain appropriate data to ensure operational compliance.Monitor and adjust ?ows through wells, booster pumps, pressure zones and water storage reservoirs to control
the distribution system and maintain system pressure.Monitor and operate telemetry system and computerized process monitoring equipment.Make appropriate equipment adjustments, lubrication, and minor repairs and/or prepare problem reports and
make hourly inspections of facilities.Maintain manual and automated performance records and logs.Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety practices as mandated and set for the by OSHA.
Write and update equipment procedures and processes; maintain communication with maintenance personnel
in the event of an emergency situation.Monitor wastewater lift stations and water reclamation plant during non-standard and weekend hours.
Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:

- Working knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of water/wastewater plant machinery and
equipment, and of the processes involved in the treatment and disposal of water/wastewater.Mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.Knowledge of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system.Ability to perform standardized water quality tests.Ability to operate respirators.Ability to perform basic math calculations.Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment in operation to detect ?aws and defects in operation.
Ability to perform required lab tests, maintains operation logs, and prepares reports.Ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain records of shift operations.Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instmctions.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community officials,
and the general public.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years experience in the operation and maintenance of
a water/wastewater facilities and systems, including reverse osmosis methods.ADDITIONAL RES QUIREMENT:Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality or Inter Tribal Council of
Arizona Grade II certification in Water Treatment upon hire.Must obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality or Inter Tribal Council of
Arizona Grade I certification in Water Distribution within one (1) year of hire.Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record
for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be
submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
application.Non-Supervisory, Hourly Position
