What You'll Do:

As a Utilities Water Systems Tech, Pre-Cert, youll play a critical role in the operation and maintenance of our campus potable water system. Under the direct supervision of certified technicians, youll assist with everything from water sampling and testing to chemical treatment and maintenance of various water treatment systems. Your efforts will ensure compliance with environmental regulations, particularly those set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for large-scale drinking water systems.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Operating, maintaining, and monitoring potable water systems.
  • Assisting in water testing, analysis, and chemical treatment for boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and more.
  • Ensuring the safe handling and monitoring of chemicals for water systems.
  • Troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing chemical feed equipment.
  • Supporting emergency responses for water system-related issues.
  • Assisting with technical documentation and utilizing our computerized maintenance systems.
  • And much more!

What You Bring:

No experience? No problem! We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who are eager to learn. Heres what youll need to get started:

  • High School Diploma or GED (additional degrees may substitute for experience).
  • A strong willingness to learn and grow within the field of water systems.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and handle hazardous materials.
  • Technical problem-solving skills and the ability to work with water treatment equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Additionally, within the first 18 months of employment, you will be required to:

  • Obtain a New Mexico Environmental Division (NMED) Water Systems Operator Level I Certificate, and a Backflow Certificate.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • CPR and Basic First Aid Certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
  • Must obtain a New Mexico Environmental Division (NMED) Backflow Certificate and Water Systems Operator Level I Certificate within 18 months of date of hire.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
