Aurora Water Department
Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.
The Water Utility Supervisor coordinates, supervises and directs the work activities of personnel in the meter reading, data management, and operation service center of the Operations Division of the Water Department.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
Supervises the functions of meter reading, data management, operation service center (call center) and hydrant meter rental
Develops monthly reading schedule
Reviews work of subordinates and work crews
Resolves citizen complaints in person and/or in writing
Develops operational priorities, goals, and objectives
Prepares and conducts training programs
Develops, implements, and enforces safety programs
Supervises assigned employees
Prepares and maintains detailed records and reports
Prepares and monitors program budget
Represents the department at meetings and on committees and present papers at conferences
Reviews and makes recommendation on hydrant meter rental requests
Communicates with vendors, distributors, project managers and upper management
Makes recommendations to the superintendent regarding selection, hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining of assigned employees; and performs additional duties as assigned.
Education:
- Associates Degree in Business Management or directly related field. Job experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience:
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in customer Information systems and/or meter reading systems, large utility experience in meter reading, data management (to include call center and/or hydrant meter rental), meter reading equipment procurement
- At least two (2) years supervisory experience
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of principles, operating procedures, meter reading equipment, industry data management software, billing schedules in water utilities
- Methods and procedures of meter reading
- Working knowledge of basic rules and regulations related to backflow prevention
- Ability to use common computer programs for records management and reports.
Abilities:
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels inside and outside the organization
- Coordinate work with other agencies and city departments
- Read and interpret plans and specifications; prepare reports and cost estimates
- Supervise and schedule assignments for several work units.
Skill:
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, computer, and supervisory skills
Licenses and/or Certificates required:
- Colorado Class I Distribution and Collection I Certificates or ability to obtain required certification within Aurora Water Department guidelines
- Colorado driver's license with a good driving record
Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Walking and standing to oversee projects
- Some pushing, pulling, bending, stooping/crouching, and climbing to inspect work sites
- Speech and hearing for communications with employees and citizens
- Prolonged sitting and/or standing at computer work stations
- Hand/eye coordination to operate computer, testing equipment
- Hand/foot coordination for operation of vehicle to travel to remote sites
- Vision to read manuals, test instruments, and other written materials.
Work Environment:
- Works both indoors and outdoors with some exposure to varying types of weather, dust, and noise.
Equipment Used:
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
