Position Summary

University Communications and Marketing is looking for a Web Designer to join our University Web Communications team. This group provides various web services, including website creation and management, to multiple areas across the university.

We are looking for a motivated individual with graphic and web design experience. This position will actively work to support departments within the UNM Health and Health Sciences and other areas to provide practical and creative solutions for tasks ranging from minor website updates to complete site creation or migration. The role will monitor and respond to web support requests submitted to our online ticketing system. The successful candidate will be able to track hours for individual clients and multiple projects accurately. The candidate must be comfortable in a consulting role, interacting with clients regularly. This individual should have excellent time management and communication skills.

Primary Duties/Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with clients to design and update existing websites using appropriate technical solutions while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Develop and maintain Multiple Websites using Cascade Server, WordPress, and/or other tools.
  • Write standards-compliant HTML, CSS, and JS
  • Ensures that websites are accessible to a variety of users, browsers, and platforms
  • Responds to email and service requests from departments in a timely manner

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year experience programming HTML, JS, XML, XSL, and CSS.
  • At least 1 year experience using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with content management system
  • Ability to work in a team and to communicate in a clear way to provide training to staff, faculty, and collaborators
  • An understanding of Web Accessibility (WCAG & Section 508)
  • Experience in planning website information architecture
