Job Description

Youth & Family Specialist – JCC (Multiple positions available)

Position Summary

Under indirect supervision of the JCC Program Manager, the Youth and Family Specialist receives referrals, creates panel summaries, presents client to panel members, schedules and performs intakes of referred clients. 

 Will complete monthly Juvenile Probation Office (JPO) reports, 90-day service plan reviews, annual consents and discharges. Will contact support services for clients and their families to access other services in the community as needed. The Youth and Family Specialist will carry a caseload for clients in the facility, reintegration centers as well as Bernalillo and Sandoval County community clients. In addition, will use a solution-focused approach with all clients: supports parental involvement in child’s development through parent/child interventions based upon a Therapeutic Family Systems Approach to service delivery and bonding/attachment visits.  Facilitates and co-facilitates Teen Life Skill Groups or other approved groups, utilizing evidence-based curriculum. Services are conducted in the community including client homes and reintegration centers and facility settings. Works collaboratively with clients including family members, caretakers, and other community providers to determine Initial Service Plan (ISP) goals that promote safe environments, nutrition, and child development by addressing environmental risk factors, reintegration issues, early childhood interventions and life skills development. Provides case management in accordance with family needs and contributes to overall program goals.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position. 

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors or Masters Degree in education, social services, human services or other related field and a minimum of two years administrative or related experience or 4-6 years directly related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understand and demonstrate agency Confidentiality and HIPAA privacy practices
  • Ability to follow JJS/JCC standards, regulations, and policy & procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret: reports, legal documents, baseline assessments, and chronological offense histories.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from clients and JCC community partners.
  • Ability to prepare documentation relevant to client services and progress.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to speak directly with others and engage in problem-resolution.
  • Ability to judge personal safety and respond accordingly
  • Ability to work independently and participate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Clear Criminal Records Clearance – required
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification – required
  • Defensive Driver Certificate – required if operating a PB&J vehicle
  • Current Automobile Liability Insurance – required if transporting clients in personal vehicle
  • Valid NM Driver’s license– required if transporting clients in personal vehicle
  • CYFD Trauma Trainings
