ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
Shifts may consist of Day, Swing, and Graveyard.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Youth Development Specialist I, is responsible for maintaining a home-like atmosphere and providing daily
care, training, supervision and discipline of children through 12 years of age residing in the Residential Program
for Youth and shall recognize the emotional needs and individuality of each child and foster a sense of respect
and acceptance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain and review all appropriate paperwork as specified in program policies and procedures, including
documents of incidents, contact sheet, and medication log.Responsible for being present in the building where the children sleep and available to the children in time of
need.Follow a planned schedule of events, duties and activities for each child in the home.Work with Clinical Team, Supervisor, and Social work Aide to ensure proper planning for the development
of the children.Responsible for cooking and cleaning on each shift.Support residential youth in daily maintenance/cleaning of their rooms and common areas and maintain a
healthy environment in the home and assist children in good habits on personal hygiene.Supervise residents, coordinate and participate in planning organized activities including recreation,
educational and community activities; drive residents to and from activities in Tribal vehicles.Responsible for dealing with the personal needs of each child in a professional and timely manner (i.e.,
medical needs, school supplies, clothing, etc).Intervene to help children deal with anti-social or acting-out behavior; help find appropriate alternatives in
solving problems; take advantage of 'teaching moments to train and educate children in social, work and life
skills.Participate in community-based prevention education efforts by positively including children in prevention
presentation at school or other areas in the Community.Attend various meetings to discuss problems, concerns, or rewards dealing with residents, this may include
coordinating with outside agenci and vendors concerning residents.
Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge of residential treatment programs.Knowledge of chemical dependency and other issues affecting Native American Youth.Knowledge of Native American cultures.Be of good moral character and have good physical and emotional health.Ability to learn, be non-judgmental and work well with others in a team environment.Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.Ability to plan and coordinate work of others.Must be available for day, evening, and/or weekend assignments.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High School diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year experience working with children in an educational
or behavioral health related area, preferably in a residential setting or therapeutic program.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to have a certi?cate of completion in Residential Child & Youth Care Training and a certi?cate of
completion in Managing Aggressive Behavior (or equivalents) at the time of hire or within the first six (6)
month from the date of hire.Required to pas a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must
continue to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that
involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child
Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 US. C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63
and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.Must be available for day, evening and/or weekend assignments.Be of mature age in relationship to the children under care and able to withstand the physical and emotional
stress of carrying on responsibilities for a group of active children.Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving record
for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must
be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of
