    GRADE 4:
    STARTING HOURLY RATE: $14.63 - $15.30 (PLACEMENT DEPENDS ON SIMILAR EXPERIENCE HELD AND EDUCATION)

    SUMMARY:

    The Security Assistant maintains a safe learning and working environment for all students and staff on school campuses by monitoring activities and addressing safety concerns. Protects and secures all District property at the campus level.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Monitors campus activities and events; enforces all campus and District rules and regulations.

    2. Patrols campus buildings and grounds to ensure that only students with valid ID's or authorized persons are on campus and students do not leave campus grounds without authorization.

    3. Builds positive relationships with students and staff; supports a positive campus climate.

    4. Escorts disruptive students from classroom to Administration office; supervises students awaiting discipline. Diffuses physical and verbal altercations. Diffuses physical and verbal altercations.

    5. Informs Dispatch/Base, Security Assistant, Campus Safety Supervisor or Security Assistant, Senior of campus activities.

    6. Participates in mandatory District/Local in-service training programs.

    7. Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND some previous experience in security or a related field preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Be at least 21 years of age.

    License and Certification Requirements:

    CPR and First Aid Certifications within 60 days of hire and maintain on a current status.

    A valid Arizona State Drivers License is required.

    Subject to local police check.

    • Ability to maintain necessary records.
    • Skill in understanding, explaining, and applying relevant rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Ability to use initiative within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed throughout school campuses and requires exposure to various weather conditions. May be exposed to potential physical harm, contagious illnesses, and bodily fluids. Physical ability to perform all essentials functions.
