Hiring Range: $23.92 - $28.71 Per Hour
Full Range: $23.92 - $33.49 Per Hour

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

Performs journey-level maintenance, repair, diagnosis, troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, and preventive maintenance involving commercial-level plumbing systems, which includes Commercial Fire Protection Systems, FP piping modifications, new installations, main fire pump repairs, and replacements.

This position requires on-call hours.

  • Performs commercial-grade pipe fitting, fabrication and installation of ductile iron, copper (potable and DWV) steel, stainless, cast-iron, high-density polyethylene, and PEX;
  • Performs commercial drain/sewer system repairs and replacements including ABS, DWV, cast-iron and C900;
  • Conducts natural gas piping for low- and medium- pressure systems, black-steel threaded and press connections, HDPE fusion piping and CSST;
  • Installs/maintains lift stations, ejection and sump pits;
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of UPC, IPC, NFPA 13 and NFPA 20 codes and guidelines;
  • Repairs detention facility plumbing and performs new installations including penal ware and ligature-resistant plumbing fixtures;
  • Excavates large-scale underground piping system installations, modifications and repairs;
  • Maintains central plant process installations and repairs heating, condensing and chilled water systems including commercial and industrial size boilers;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of backflow prevention and cross-connection control measures.
Minimum Qualifications

(1) Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in the plumbing trade or craft AND one (1) year of journey-level experience in the plumbing trade or craft.

(Relevant education may substitute for up to six months of the aforementioned experience.)

(2) Three (3) years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Specialist in the plumbing trade or craft. Some positions may require additional specialized training and/or experience.
(3) Five (5) years of experience as a commercial journeyman Plumber.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with/knowledge of UPC Codes and IPC Codes.
  2. Experience with/knowledge of backflow prevention/cross-connection control.
  3. Experience with/knowledge of commercial, industrial, and residential plumbing.
  4. Knowledgeable with all phases from rough-in to finish.
  5. Experience with/knowledge of threading machines, power tools, sewer machines, and hand tools.
  6. Ability to install connect, and test water, sewer, gas, air, and vacuum lines.
  7. Experience with/knowledge of excavation safety/confined space and fall protection.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Current First Aid certification required on the date of appointment; CPR certification desirable for some positions. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Certified as Approved Backflow Tester or able to acquire this certification through Pima County sponsored training within 6 months of hire date. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
