Job Description:
$23.56 - $26.44 per hour, DOE
The University Business Services (UBS) Finance Team is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to support a variety of complex clerical and technical financial tasks. This role involves compiling and analyzing data from multiple sources, maintaining accurate and systematic financial records, and producing detailed reports using various computer systems. Essential Duties:
- Prepares or verifies and encodes requisitions, invoices, complex journal entries or other transaction documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance with pertinent university or sponsor regulations; approves transaction documents within designated limits.
- Reviews reports, ledger or account statements; investigates irregularities and reports to supervisor; makes adjustments and necessary journal entries.
- Analyzes transactions and documents procedures to ensure compliance with accounting principles and university regulations.
- Analyzes accounting data and makes general interpretations and recommendations.
- Solves problems and recommends changes in procedure in accordance with previous training or experience.

- Assists higher level personnel with more complex or specialized assignments.
- Maintains special logs or records and balances and reconciles internal accounts or records with university system; verifies accuracy and completeness and makes necessary adjustments.
- Performs or reviews specialized calculations related to posting and accounting functions.
- Ensures requirements and specifications of university or outside agencies are met by monitoring and complying with reporting requirements and opening or closing accounts as specified/required.
- Contacts department personnel, account representatives or other appropriate personnel regularly to resolve problems, keep all parties informed and to serve as a reference source; composes correspondence of technical nature pertaining to assignments.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping practices and principles. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and budgeting practices. Skill in maintaining and reconciling accounting and financial records. Skill in both verbal and written communication.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma and three years (3) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
