ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES CASEWORKER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Adult Protective Service Caseworker is responsible to receive and investigate referrals of abuse, neglect, or

exploitation. Case management activities include providing services to adults in need of care and their adult

family members which includes coordinating services with other programs and agencies to ensure the safety and

well-being of adults.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Receive and investigate referrals of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and incapacity of adults; Provide on-call

services during normal and after hours to include investigations, assistance, and crisis intervention.

 Provide emotional support and assistance to elderly, vulnerable adults and family members who have been

victims of adult abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

 Develop and maintain networks with other agencies and programs involved with the care of vulnerable adults;

Collaborate with community based and other public organizations to meet the resources needed of clients;

Continuously remain information regarding new and updated services available by community resources and

their appropriate utilization.

 Develop and implement care plans for clients and family members; Engage family or caretaker in methods to

solve problems, refer them to available resources, and monitor situations; Make minimum monthly home

visits or as needed or deemed appropriate.

 Maintain appropriate data and strict standards of confidentiality for both clients and records; complete all

necessary program reports and evaluations as assigned.

 Make appropriate placement of adult with relatives, in adult family care homes, nursing homes, residential

boarding care, personal care homes, or in an emergency shelter; Assist with placement of incapacitated adults

in nursing homes and supervisory residential care facilities; Participates with families and the tribal court in

processing adult guardianships.

 Work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Finance Department to assess the supervision of IIM accounts of

exploited adults and works cooperatively with the tribal Fiduciary.

 Develop and present Adult Protective Services related education for local programs and agencies.

 Organize and facilitate care coordination meetings.

 Participate in staff meetings and in-service training programs.
