JOB SUMMARY
Prepare animals in the care of the Animal Control Department for adoption by the public, coordinate health testing, vaccination, alteration,grooming, and adoption, take animals to adoption events, help public with decision making, and answer questions under basic supervision.  Work with various animal rescue organizations to include trap, neuter, and release programs.  Work within guidelines of rescue contracts approved through the Board of Supervisors and work with volunteers and the media.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:        

  • Prepare animals for adoption, coordinate vaccinating, bathing, grooming, temperament testing, paperwork, and contracts.
  • Transport animals for surgery, both at the shelter and off site and assist the Technician and Doctor as needed.
  • Take an assortment of animals to local adoption events, assist public with adoption of animal by answering questions, filling out paperwork, taking payments, and helping to socialize animals to new environment.
  • Work extensively with various rescue organizations.
  • Work extensively with media, to include but not limited to, social and print media.
  • Assist with preparations when a scheduled euthanasia list is necessary.
  • Assist with cleaning duties as needed.
  • Work with volunteers, community service workers, and inmate labor.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of computer experience and animal care experience.
  • Valid Arizona State Driver's License.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

  • Knowledge of animal care and control practices and training methods.
  • Knowledge of mission and vision of Pinal County Animal Care and Control.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and protocols.
  • Skill in exercising patience, care and compassion.
  • Skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and basic record keeping practices.
  • Skill in time management.
  • Skill in social media, Facebook, Twitter, and other social and print media.
  • Skill in organization. 
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  The work also requires the ability to crouch, kneel, stand, stoop, walk, reach, perform repetitive motion, operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, hear, speak, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
