Job Description

Core Facilities, within the ASU Knowledge Enterprise (KE), is seeking an innovative and enterprising Business Development Manager to join their team. In this position, you will primarily focus on the growth of the Core Facilities within the Semiconductor and Microelectronics sector by engaging and developing relationships and partnerships with industry clients. 

 

Under administrative direction, you will develop and manage the relationships between KE Core Facilities, faculty and external organizations, marketing KE Core Facilities programs and services to increase our customer base. You will be the liaison between ASU Subject Matter Experts and external organizations and will facilitate access to the technical services and facilities that KE Core Facilities provides.

 

The Business Development Manager will execute their responsibilities from conception to completion, ensuring that objectives and outcomes are accomplished in accordance with priorities, time limitations, funding limitations and other specifications. Additionally, you will organize events that increase awareness of ASU’s unique combination of expertise and research solution offerings.

 

In addition to your base salary, you may have the ability to earn additional incentive pay contingent on your ability to meet the revenue targets agreed upon. It is expected that you will generate this funding through externally funded projects at ASU. Payment in the amount you are able to secure through other sources will be reviewed and processed on an annual basis in June.

 

Salary Range

$62,595 - $85,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

·       In collaboration with Corporate Engagement, Marketing and Subject Matter Experts, assisting the development of and implementing strategies to solicit new business opportunities for Core Facilities by, or while, ensuring the clients are partnered with ASU’s faculty resources.

·       Developing long-term sustainable business relationships with corporate entities and internal resources.

·       Understanding and promoting the capabilities, services and training capacities of Core Facilities; and promoting their application to industry needs.

·       Responsible for developing and implementing strategies for new business development throughout the lifecycle.

·       Identifying, pursuing and managing long-term, sustainable business relationships with industry clients that align with Core Facilities goals and objectives.

·       Developing a rapport and credibility with stakeholder faculty, Core Facility management and technical staff and engaging them in business development efforts.

·       Overseeing and reporting on the financial management of assigned partnerships.

·       Utilizing CRM and data management tools to solicit new clients and partnerships.

·       Developing relationships with industrial, relevant non-profit and university partners to connect them with the Core Facilities team of experts who understand their research and business objectives, in order to facilitate partnership opportunities.

·       Facilitating new business development, participating in relevant technical associations and technology networking events and serving as a liaison to ASU Knowledge Enterprise and Core Facilities.

·       As part of a team, developing, implementing and coordinating efforts to host special events, client presentation meetings and site visits.

·       Establishing and developing a resource network in the ASU and regional communities, to identify and cultivate industrial partners of ASU.

·       Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, technology-related discipline or closely related field and three (3) years’ closely related experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·       Evidence of a Master’s degree in Business or technology-related field and five (5) years’ closely related experience with demonstrated ability to bring concepts from development to successful launch.

·       Experience in understanding semiconductor/microelectronics, nano-fabrication and materials characterization services at a level necessary to effectively represent Core Facilities.

·       Demonstrated knowledge of management and financial principles and practice.

·       Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices.

·       Experience in problem-solving and decision-making in a complex organization.

·       Experience in planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.

·       Experience in high technology, research-intensive entrepreneurial and/or industrial environment.

·       Experience in relationship building with a business, including strategic alliances, business development, sales and relationship management.

·       Experience in facilitating industry, university and government research partnerships.

·       Evidence of effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

 

Working Environment

·       Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work

·       Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds

·       Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts

·       Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions

·       Regular travel requiring extended trips at a local, regional, national and international level
