Job Description
The Carpenter’s Helper performs skilled and semi-skilled carpentry work in alteration, repair, rehabilitation and
new construction for the Gila River Indian Community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform general carpentry work in accordance with generally accepted journeyman trade practices.
Utilize hand tools, power tools, handling common equipment and light motor vehicles.
Assist in handling heavy construction materials such as roof trusses, shovels, trowels and direct wet concrete
flow.
Apply laminations when required.
Load and unload materials such as sheetrock, plywood, lumber, cement nails, plumbing, electrical and roofing
supplies.
Assist workers in other construction trades when required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and practices of carpentry.
Ability to observe all safety regulations and procedures.
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
Ability to use hand tools and small tools safely.
Ability to read blueprints and other construction drawings.
Ability to follow oral/written directions/instructions and exercise good judgment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the public.
Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
