Job Description

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Carpenter’s Helper performs skilled and semi-skilled carpentry work in alteration, repair, rehabilitation and

new construction for the Gila River Indian Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Perform general carpentry work in accordance with generally accepted journeyman trade practices.

 Utilize hand tools, power tools, handling common equipment and light motor vehicles.

 Assist in handling heavy construction materials such as roof trusses, shovels, trowels and direct wet concrete

flow.

 Apply laminations when required.

 Load and unload materials such as sheetrock, plywood, lumber, cement nails, plumbing, electrical and roofing

supplies.

 Assist workers in other construction trades when required.

 Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

 Thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and practices of carpentry.

 Ability to observe all safety regulations and procedures.

 Ability to perform strenuous physical labor.

 Ability to use hand tools and small tools safely.

 Ability to read blueprints and other construction drawings.

 Ability to follow oral/written directions/instructions and exercise good judgment.

 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials

and the public.

 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
