Definition
Definition: Under general supervision from the Clinical Director (HHS), provides professional clinical psychological services and case consultation for clients referred from the Department of Health and Human Services programs, Salt River Court and other entities within the Tribal Government. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.
Essential Functions: Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification.
Examples of Tasks
1. Provides a full range of psychological services on an outpatient basis to clients of all age groups who have a wide range of difficulties.
2. Provides individual, group and family therapy to clients and their families who are experiencing emotional or complex trauma or personality and interpersonal challenges.
3. Conducts psychological assessments of clients, interprets psychological assessments and applies appropriate theories, methods and techniques to treatment via client treatment plan.
4. Establishes and maintains service linkages with tribal service providers, medical staff, Psychiatrists, Substance Abuse Counselors, Social Workers, mental health providers, school Counselors and others, as needed, in matters pertaining to mental health issues by providing professional information.
5. Assists HHS providers with case consultation to ensure quality of services on the overall continuity of care for each client.
6. Develops and maintains consultation and referral services for all age groups.
7. Collects data, analyzes and writes narrative service reports on a quarterly basis.
8. Performs other job related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance program and agency operation.

- This includes, but is not limited to, emotional or family related problems, acute or chronic mental illness, intellectual disabilities, learning disorders, pervasive or emotional abuse, and clients who exhibit a variety of unusual or abnormal personal adjustments.
2. Provides individual, group and family therapy to clients and their families who are experiencing emotional or complex trauma or personality and interpersonal challenges.
3. Conducts psychological assessments of clients, interprets psychological assessments and applies appropriate theories, methods and techniques to treatment via client treatment plan.
- May assign the implementation and provision of therapy services to a counselor or social worker on staff where it is clinically appropriate.
- Such assignments may involve direct staff supervision on the clinical case.
4. Establishes and maintains service linkages with tribal service providers, medical staff, Psychiatrists, Substance Abuse Counselors, Social Workers, mental health providers, school Counselors and others, as needed, in matters pertaining to mental health issues by providing professional information.

- Makes recommendations for program improvements.
8. Performs other job related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance program and agency operation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, history and government of the Salt River Pima- Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge at a comprehensive level of the theory, principles and trends in clinical psychology.
- Knowledge at a comprehensive level of methods, techniques and procedures of psychological counseling, therapy and human behavior.
- Knowledge at a basic level of forensics in the mental health field.
- Knowledge of and appreciation for Native American Indian culture and tradition in the application of mental and physical healing.
- Knowledge of the needs of families within the SRPMIC.
- Skill with aspects of clinical treatment and case management, individual and group therapies including conducting assessments, testing, interpretation of results, diagnostic case management and treatment.
- Skill with application of scientific methodology and psychological measures.
- Skill managing administrative practices.
- Skill making decisions independently and working autonomously.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with SRPMIC staff, tribal officials, education and mental health professionals.
- Skill using the personal computer and related software, including MS Office.
- Ability to provide psychological services and consultation, leadership, supervision, professional training and support to staff in the clinical and counseling professions.
- Ability to present verbal and written ideas clearly and effectively.
- Ability to tolerate significant level of pressure and tension.
- Ability to prepare psychological and other complex analysis reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Experience: A Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from a program that is regionally accredited and approved by the American Psychological Association, AND completion of a APA Approved Internship as well as three (3) years full-time post-doctoral experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Shall maintain licensure as a Psychologist by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners.
- Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position. The equivalency clause does not apply to the requirement for licensure as a Psychologist by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners.
- Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill
Special Requirements
- May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation is required.
