New Alternatives, Inc. The CYCSU is an outpatient clinic with a CSU (Crisis Stabilization Unit) designation. ESU has been the only screening and assessment LPS facility for youth in an acute psychiatric crisis in the county since 1995.
Our psychiatric team of psychiatrists, nurses, clinicians, and mental health workers work with youth in crisis by providing mental health care to children who are experiencing a mental health crisis, such as suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or psychosis.
This county-contracted program is a 12-bed crisis stabilization unit centrally located in Hillcrest, CA. Our skilled, passionate, and trauma-informed team serves youth and families in crisis while working to stabilize the crisis and discharge them to the lowest level of care possible. Children and youth can stay up to 24-48 hours pending stabilization or a bed in a psychiatric hospital. The overall goal of the ESU is to effectively stabilize children and youth so they may return to their home or previous placement and avoid hospitalization.
