Job Description

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Construction Inspector performs inspections on all construction projects that take place on the road rights-

of-way within the community. This includes BIA, GRICDOT, and other operating entities within the community

such as Lone Butte Industrial Park and Wild Horse Pass Development Authority. The incumbent is there to

protect the interest of the Community and its members by ensuring a quality construction product, which will

prevent premature maintenance and future safety hazards. The Construction Inspector is responsible for assuring

a project is completed safely according to approved plans/specifications or approved changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Promote and enforce OSHA and traffic control.
    • Enforce quality construction projects through specifications of materials and workmanship.
      • Enforce penalties when specifications are not met.
        • Enforcement of (MUTCD) Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, (FP03) Federal Provisions 2003 and

        Federal Guidelines.

        • Enforce regulations on contractors on construction methods.
          • Inspect job sites for correct placement of traffic control devices.
            • Issue ceases work and encroachment notices for unauthorized, unsafe, or deficient construction.
              • Coordinate all permit activity with contractors, subcontractors, utility companies, survey crews, soils labs,

              consultants, geotech firms, and engineers as construction proceeds.

              • Attend and participate in pre-construction conferences.
                • Conduct pre-final and final acceptance inspections.
                  • Operate GPS and Level Equipment.
                    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
                    • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
                      • Knowledge of construction method, surveying, and material acceptance testing
                        • Knowledge of inspection enforcement and reporting requirements
                          • Knowledge of federal, state, and Community laws, codes, regulations, and/or ordinance
