Job Description
The Cultural Specialist (RPY) will assist the Residential Programs for Youth (RPY) Administrator, Recreation
Coordinator, and Clinical Manager with preserving Gila River Indian Community Culture and Language. The
incumbent will provide training sessions and essential educational materials to Residential Programs for Youth
staff and children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Works closely with the RPY staff to assist, prepare, and implement developmentally and age appropriate
Culture Curriculum lesson plans and activities for children.
Work closely with recreation staff to incorporate Culture and Language in all areas such as language, social,
physical, health, safety, and nutrition.
Make regular observations of assigned children to document progress with language and culture. Prepare
monthly reports for Cultural Coordinator regarding this progress and any barriers faced.
Follow referral procedures to report suspected abuse/neglect/maltreatment and other social service related
incidents and for children and families needing assistance through established regulations, policies, and
procedures.
Collaborate with the Recreation Coordinator and Clinical Manager to develop and implement age appropriate
Culture and Language training and activity opportunities for children, including but not limited to; songs,
dance, storytelling, beading, pottery, painting, traditional gardening, cooking, and traditional building.
Assist with conducting all staff meetings, trainings, visits to The Caring House, Community meetings, and
events as assigned.
Assist Training Coordinator with new employee onboarding to include GRIC Culture, Language, and history
so it is culturally responsive.
Maintain confidentiality of children, Parents/Guardians and staff.
Participate in clinical team staff meetings, on-going professional, pre-service, in-service training, field related
workshops, and conferences.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
