Job Description:
Financial Services seeks a Debt Accountant who will: make debt service payments; process financial transactions; monitor compliance with University policy and procedure and generally accepted accounting principles; prepare accounting reports and statements including notes to the financial statements; review monthly bank statements; prepare journal entries; reconcile accounts; provide audit question responses; process and approve accounting transactions in the University's financial system; prepare spreadsheets using Excel; and demonstrates effective verbal and written communication. The salary is $55,000 per year.

Essential Duties:
- Prepares accounting reports and statements, such as detailed cost and financial analysis, forecasts and variance analysis. Assists in preparing debt-related notes to the financial statements and completes year-end entries.
- Receives and reviews debt-related bank statements and creates journal entries.
- Manages work by student workers to complete debt entries.
- Prepares Excel spreadsheets.
- Assists in audits and prepares audit work papers.
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts, cash, and the general ledger.
- Reviews third-party financial statements.
- Responds to questions regarding policy and practices.
- Prepares detailed journal entries and other accounting transactions for entry into Workday.
- Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within certain limits.
- Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and university regulations.
- Participates in relevant training and professional development.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in preparing detailed financial reports and statements. Experience in financial variance analysis.
- Experience using Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience utilizing accounting software and performing account reconciliations. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Experience in a diverse, service focused environment. Experience using financial systems.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word.
Working Environment:
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, an pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Communicate to perform essential functions.
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
- Receive managerial review of outcomes to ensure achievement of established objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
