The Team

The Global Financial & Accounting Services (GFAS) division is a growing team with an increasing breadth of responsibility. The foundation continues to grow in its global footprint and in the complexity of its work. The GFAS team is scaling up to support this important work. The team’s vision is to provide innovative and scalable global business solutions in accounting, tax, payroll, treasury, procurement and financial operations while safeguarding the reputation of the foundation and our related entities, with the highest standards of integrity and operational excellence.

 

GFAS is a division within the Finance organization at the foundation and an important part of the operations function. Operations supports and enables the six program teams to make investments and to run effectively and efficiently. As a function, Finance employs approximately 100 FTE’s. The GFAS division is significant (50 FTE’s globally), and responsible for financial reporting processes, technical and advisory services, internal controls, and the accounting functions at the foundation.

 

Your Role

This role is responsible for developing and delivering strategic thinking, business analysis, process redesign, technology leadership, and project planning for the foundation’s Global Payroll function. This role will also ensure the delivery of Payroll services and processes to meet business needs and regulatory requirements globally. Responsible for providing leadership and managing the team's portfolio of projects, products and services, quality control and quality assurance, and governance processes. Manages resource allocation to various projects, consultant and vendor partnerships and directs work activities.

 

What You’ll Do

 

• Lead Global Payroll team of four FTEs including outsourced providers across the globe to support payroll in almost 20 countries and over 2,000 employees worldwide.

 

• Participate in the Global Financial & Accounting Services leadership team to own and drive strategic initiatives across the team to ensure we meet our goals as a full team.

 

• Build collaborative and effective relationships with cross-operational, regional, subsidiary, and affiliate stakeholders.

 

• Set the vision for the payroll function at the foundation, define the strategy, create a roadmap to achieve that vision, and take ownership along with the team on delivering that vision.

 

• Partner with global payroll providers to manage operations to ensure the smooth, timely, and accurate delivery of payroll services globally.

 

• Design efficient and scalable processes and alternatives for bringing on payroll in new global locations.

 

• Strong understanding of payroll mobility and tax issues globally and ability to present options for employing people and moving people around the world.

 

• Understand the potential of technology and AI and how to use responsibly to achieve efficiencies in the payroll space.

 

• Ensure that Payroll team maintains appropriate internal control requirements and narratives, including maintenance of documentation for payroll related processes and providing recommendations, as appropriate.

 

• Transform payroll business processes, solidify roles and responsibilities of team, and create a roadmap for technology enhancements.

 

• Ensure all payroll related tax and statutory filings are compliant within all jurisdictions of all regions.

 

• Drive outcomes via measurable metrics that lead to operational excellence.

 

Your Experience

 

• Advanced degree preferred.

 

• Excellent communication and relationship building skills.

 

• Proven ability to develop strategic roadmaps and execute against the plan.

 

• Dedication to staff development, demonstrated through coaching, feedback and creating opportunities for professional growth. Leader who can effectively motivate and drive the team towards higher value work.

 

• Understanding of domestic and international HR and Payroll processes and system.

 

• Proven ability to drive and manage continuous improvement change.

 

• Ability to communicate complex concepts to partners with diverse backgrounds, including leadership, program staff and other foundation operational resources.

 

• Proven ability to lead and influence others.

 

• Demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, diplomacy, and flexibility particularly as part of a team.

 

• Experience working in teams with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

 

Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

 

The salary range for this role is $204,600 - $317,100 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $222,900 - $345,500 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
