CLASS SUMMARY: Under general direction, incumbent(s) will lead school improvement efforts and provide the support necessary for successful and sustainable school improvement and/or turnaround. Incumbent(s) will provide prioritized support and accountability to designated schools. Incumbent(s) will provide programmatic oversight and supervise the improvement and/or turnaround process at the designated schools.   Incumbent(s) will directly manage and coach school administrators, evaluate instruction, build key systems to support effective instruction, and leverage resources to enhance the instruction and professional development.

       1.             

Facilitates improvement and/or turnaround with designated schools by supporting school administration, assisting with the development and oversight of school action plans that align with the District’s vision and strategic goals, and regularly monitoring the schools’ progress. Collects, analyzes, and disaggregates school data to provide a strategic direction.   Engages in frequent and open communication to ensure that expectations are vertically aligned and laterally supported.

Reinforces system-wide strategic goals and instructional quality that supports student achievement by conducting purposeful weekly school visits, monitoring the progress of the 90-day action plans, monitoring and providing feedback on school goals, promoting data-driven practices, promoting continued sense of urgency, communicating progress of the schools with District leadership, and facilitating regular meetings with designated school administrators.

       3.             

Coordinates the evaluation of instructional practices by assessing and making recommendations for the improvement of the quality of instruction, instructional practices and systems at each school. Mentors and demonstrates best instructional practices with school administrators and teachers. Creates systems and a culture that recognizes and removes barriers, which may impede school improvement.

       4.             

Provides coaching, mentoring, continued development, and targeted support of school administrators. Identifies professional development and training needs of school administration and aspiring administrators. Provides tools, supports, and guidance needed to refine their coaching effectiveness and the overall instructional strategies for the schools.

       5.             

Assists Human Resources with talent management to include assisting with recruiting, hiring and retaining highly effective school administration and staff.   Provides feedback to District leadership regarding performance and development needs of school administration.

       6.             

Works with key district staff to ensure the understanding the critical role they play in achieving sustainable change. Presents and disseminates important information to the Superintendent’s leadership team, site personnel, parents and community groups. Develops relationships and works with CEOs and other high level executives from private industry and businesses for the purpose of maintaining or obtaining outside funding and additional partnerships

Remains updated on relevant researched-based practices. Attends Academic Services, professional leadership academies, professional learning communities, and other District meetings and trainings. Attends national and state meetings relevant to continuous improvement and leadership development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. In addition, verification of these required qualifications is necessary.

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field;

·         Three years of experience in school leadership;

·         Two years of experience providing professional development for adults;

·         Valid Arizona Department of Education Principal/Administrative Certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is preferred that applicant possess the following preferred qualifications; however, the following qualifications are not required to be eligible for this position.

 

·         Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field;

·         Three to five years of experience in school leadership in high-performing or school turnaround context;

·         Experience with coaching and developing of instructional leaders.
