Job Description

ASU is looking for a strategic Director of Insurance and Risk programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director serves as the Subject Matter Expert, the Director manages the day to day operations of all ASU insurance programs, The Director also identifies, assesses, manages and reports on University wide and unit specific risks to various stakeholders at the institution. Supports the Risk Management team with training, knowledge and experience to help achieve objectives and builds risk awareness within the organization. 

 

Under general direction, assists in the planning, development and implementation of operational risk frameworks/measurement methodologies, metrics, guidelines, policies, standards and procedures to ensure management of risks are in accordance with industry best practices. Collaborates on development and implementation of university strategic risk initiatives and projects.

 

Salary Range

$110,000 - $125,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

·       Provides leadership and management of strategic initiatives to create a culture of risk awareness to support the mission and goals of the university.

·       Directs, manages and supervises complex university-wide insurance renewals and programs and directs leads projects working with stakeholders to analyze and evaluate risk exposures and develop a risk management methodology.

·       Creates plan to address and manages university wide implementation.

·       Leverages data and technology to help define and mitigate key risks.

·       Directs the analysis of business risk profile for unique or complex risk initiatives.

·       Collaborates with key partners in resolution and management of risks.

·       Develops, evaluates and recommends strategic risk management department objectives.

·       Develops, recommends and implements with stakeholders policies and standards that include risk assessment in support of the University’s goals and objectives.

·       Consults with departments, units, administration and organizations to provide counsel and direction to proactively identify risks, develop and implement risk management strategies.

·       Facilitates execution of strategies and solutions with stakeholders to enable them to satisfy or achieve their goals. Provides risk management guidance and advice to various management staff including senior management. Manages and develops risk programs and tools for consistent interpretation of University, ABOR, federal and state laws, regulations, and policies that may impact the mission and goals of the university.

·       Consults and collaborates with university stakeholders on special projects and initiatives providing advice and guidance on risk exposures and avoidance solutions.

·       Provides risk management guidance and advice on globalization assessing risk exposures and mitigation strategies.

·       Interprets federal and state laws and regulations concerning risk management and insurance requirements and keep abreast of current legal trends and their potential impact on the University.

·       Evaluates and identifies contractual risk exposures.

·       Directs and analyzes real estate contracts and develops solutions in collaboration with key partners to finalize agreements.

·       Conducts risk and financial impact analysis to assess organizations contractual risk exposures.

·       Develops contractual language to help manage the risk impact to the organization.

·       Prepares risk reports for senior management of the risk analysis and assessment of campus programs and contractual obligations.

·       Works with key stakeholders to ensure organizational compliance with risk policies and loss prevention programs. May serve on university wide committees as risk management liaison.

·       Collaborates internally and externally with content experts to develop best practices.

·       Supervises and trains staff to advance the mission and success the team. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors’ degree in business administration, risk management or engineering and seven (7) years of progressive risk management and insurance experience, including risk identification, analysis, assessment and evaluation of risk, and including four (4) years of supervisory experience OR ten (10) years of progressive risk management and insurance experience, including risk identification, analysis, assessment and evaluation and four (4) years of supervisory experience, OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

 

Desired Qualifications

·       Evidence of ARM, CPCU or CRM certifications

·       Knowledge of real estate contracts

·       Relevant areas of experience include underwriting, insurance coverage, and risk management principles.

·       Knowledge of insurance policies and risk transfer options.

·       Experience in using organizational, financial and analytical skills

 

Working Environment

·       Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse

·       Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 

·       Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds 

·       Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts 

·       Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions 

·       Ability to travel to all campuses; depending on the type of loss, may be in a non-office environment
