Job Description
The Director, Tribal Health Department (THD), provides leadership in coordinating, directing, managing,
planning, and directing the administrative and operational activities, functions, and services by establishing and
maintaining standards, systems, and processes for delivery of integrated public health services. The Director
organizes and manages the adequacy and soundness of the department’s financial structure and coordinates
developmentally appropriate services that are responsive to the diverse needs of the community in accordance
with all Tribal, state, and federal standards and guidelines. Prepares reports, presentations, and establishes
current and long range goals and objectives that are effective and culturally appropriate for the community. The
Director also leads agencies on the front lines of public health to prevent and control epidemics, spread of
disease, protect against environmental hazards, prevent injuries, promote healthy lifestyles, and help the
community respond to disasters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Facilitate and provide daily leadership, supervision and oversight to management staff to ensure
departmental goals, plans, and budgets are in alignment with broader organizational goals which are
effectively communicated with both internal and external stakeholders;
Provide continued review and critique of program specific policy development and implementation,
performance evaluations, training, service delivery plans, and participate in internal and external meetings
and maintain positive relationships with GRHC Leadership and other tribal, state, and national public health
organizations.
Provide oversight on the development, monitoring, and updating of major documents like the Community
Health Profile, Community Health Assessment, Community Health Improvement Plan, and the Tribal
Health Department Strategic Plan.
Prepare, manage, and monitor budgets, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports, and Grant
deliverables to ensure compliance with tribal, state, and federal laws, regulations and/or ordinances, direct
