    Job Title:
    District Summer School Coordinator
    Department: Curriculum and Instruction
    Stipend Amount: $5,000
    Reports to: Chief Academic Officer

    Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, the District Summer School Coordinator will oversee the Balsz School District Summer School Program. The District Summer School Coordinator will supervise all summer school staff, serve as site lead for instructional support, and oversee operational management for programming. The District Summer School Coordinator will provide a final report to the Chief Academic Officer that includes data analysis and program evaluation at the conclusion of Summer School.

    Essential Job Functions
    Pre-Summer:
    1. Support recrutment and planning.
      1. Target highly qualified teachers in collaboration with site leadership.
      2. Co-plan and attend all planning meetings required.
      3. Support Summer School registration.
        1. Coordinate transportation (SPED, McKinney Vento, etc.).
        2. Work with summer data analyst to provide a list of all registered students.
        3. Develop master schedule, class rosters, arrive and dismissal procedures, and plan for attendance.
        4. Create student rosters to include data regarding instructional needs.
        5. Facilitate site summer expectations meeting with staff prior to the first day of Summer School.
        6. During Summer School Session:
          1. Work with site staff to implement ELA and Math curricula to target AZ Academic Standards and deliver engaging, educational programming for students.
          2. Facilitate utilization of student data for curriculum and instructional planning.
          3. Observe classes (at least 1x per week), provide timely feedback, lead meetings, and model practices to improve instruction.
          4. Collecting lesson plans, student surveys, and teacher surveys.
          5. Execute and enforce site policies and student discipline code.
          6. Arrange for coverage in the event of teaching staff absence.
          7. Coordinate emergency response procedures in the event of an emergency.
          8. Collect staff time sheets for approval.
          After Summer School Session:
          1. Completion of wrap-up duties, including a Final Report:
            1. Submission of student assessments and data analysis indicating measured growth in ELA and Math.
            2. Submission of Program Evaluation.
            3. Additional Job Responsibilities:
              1. Build and maintain positive site culture and climate for all stakeholders.
              2. Attendance at all central planning meetings.
              3. Effectively communicate with families before, during, and at closing of Summer School.
              Qualifications & Skills:
              • Ability to supervise other academic teachers and paraprofessionals in summer setting (providing constructive feedback, developing collaborative effort).
              • Skills in collaboration, group process and team facilitation.
              • Demonstrates exceptional communication skills, positive demeanor, and a professional attitude.
              • Demonstrates effective leadership qualities & skills, such as strategic and critical thinking, responsibility, dependability, flexibility, creativity, and self-awareness.
              • Demonstrates great work ethics and a positive rapport with staff and students at the school site.
              • Technology savvy preferred.
              Experience
              • Current certified BESD teacher with at least 3 years of teaching experience preferred. Preference given to teachers returning to BESD for the 2025-26 school year.
              • Prior BESD Summer School experience.
              Education
              • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred. Master's degree in Educational Leadership preferred.
              Primary Evaluator/Working Location
              • Position to be housed at the appointed school site during the Summer School Program. Prior to the start of the program, District Summer School Coordinator will take part in planning meetings at the District Office.
