Summary
Under general supervision of the Community Services Manager (CSM), the Education Division Director oversees the complete management of all operational activities and provides leadership for the Ak-Chin Indian Community Educational system (Ak-Chin Education Department, Ak-Chin Early Childhood Development, and Ak-Chin Language Program). This position is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Division of Instruction, including curriculum and staff development as well as liaison between Ak-Chin Indian Community and Maricopa Unified School District and out of district schools.
Minimum QualificationsA Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Education and a minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in education administration or as a school administrator; OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends and holidays. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must successfully complete and pass a fingerprint/background check
Preferred Qualifications:
A Doctoral degree in Education Administration and Supervision and a minimum of ten years progressive experience as a school administrator, including at least three years as a public school superintendent and some experience in Education.
- Provides vision, leadership and direction to the Ak-Chin Indian Community's education programs and administrative services to the Community students and members.
- Supervises the work of program managers, educational coordinators, and staff within the Ak-Chin Education Division.
- Oversees the Ak-Chin Language Program, plan and initiate language staff development to teach O'odham language for various levels of proficiency.
- Implements accountability framework for the Division.
- Establishes, maintains and complies with credential and educational requirements for teaching staff and Education Managers.
- Oversees the completion and collection of data to include student data, financial data, and education programs.
- Develops and manages the department budget and program budgets and assists Early Childhood Program, Education Program, GED and higher education with the implementation of their respective budgets.
- Ensures professional development and growth opportunities for staff in the Education program division.
- Develops monitoring systems and standards for evaluation purposes.
- Creates job descriptions related to the Education programs.
- Acts as the liaison between key community agencies and the Ak-Chin Indian Community Programs.
- Oversees the recruitment of new personnel under the division.
- Manages the accuracy and timelines of all reporting; that includes but are not limited to coordinating timesheets, monthly reports and purchase orders as well compliance with the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of educational procedures, program development, management and administration including trends.
- Knowledge of educational, economic and social challenges of the Native American people.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and implementation.
- Specialized knowledge in special needs and ability to oversee, IEP's, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Higher Education including knowledge of 504 accommodations.
- Knowledge in Education Administration for Pre-School, Elementary, Secondary, Higher Education. Including knowledge and oversight of GED and truancy processes.
- Skill in policy development and implementation.
- Skill in conflict resolution with administrators, offender parent/family/relative, teachers, staff, and community.
- Strong communication, public speaking, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
- Ability to interpret data and prepare comprehensive written reports.
- Ability to manage budget and personnel.
- Ability to coordinate district function for educational events.
- Ability to implement policy and procedures.
- Ability to effective plan, supervise, organize and direct the activities of professional and technical staff and multiple projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community officials and the general public.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule. Evenings, weekends and holiday work may be required.
