Position Summary The Emerging Technology Specialist will support HSLICs technology initiatives by researching, implementing, and maintaining innovative tools and services, including but not limited to augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), 3D printing, data visualization, virtual anatomy tables, and instructional technologies. These tools are aimed at enhancing health sciences education, research, and clinical practice. The position will also assist in the daily operations related to emerging technologies and provide training and support for staff, faculty, students, and researchers to utilize these tools effectively, driving innovative learning and research outcomes.

NOTE: The University of New Mexico will reclassify all Grade 11 and 12 exempt positions to non-exempt on January 1, 2025, to comply with FLSA regulations. Although the position you're applying for is currently listed as exempt, it will shift to non-exempt as of that date.

Duties include:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate new library services involving emerging technology resources. This includes training library staff, student employees, and HSC faculty, students, and staff on tools like AR/VR, 3D printing, and data visualization.
  • Assist in the identification, testing, and implementation of emerging technologies to ensure their alignment with health sciences teaching and research goals. Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and continuous improvement of these tools.
  • Monitor library technology, including computing, printing, and emerging tech resources, while providing frontline support to patrons. Ensure seamless integration of emerging technologies into daily library operations.
  • Actively participate in cross-departmental working groups to ensure that emerging technologies are user-centric and meet the evolving needs of HSC students, faculty, and researchers
  • Monitor developments and trends in emerging technologies, particularly those relevant to health sciences education and research. Share insights and make data-driven recommendations to guide future technology initiatives and service improvements.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to library patrons at the front desk, managing borrowing and returns, assisting with renewals and holds, supporting interlibrary loans, overseeing equipment lending, and demonstrating proficiency in library technology resources while referring complex inquiries as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain organizational resources, including statistical reports, training materials, and documentation guides, to ensure continued staff proficiency in new technologies.
  • Develop and update library research guides, FAQs, and other instructional materials to help users effectively navigate emerging technologies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to contribute to the library's overall success.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working in an academic library performing similar job duties.
  2. Experience in delivering technical training or creating instructional materials
  3. Ability to effectively communicate and foster a cooperative work environment.
  4. Familiarity with instructional technologies and their application in teaching and research.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to serving a diverse population.
  6. Masters degree in library science or related field.
