ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SUPERVISOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Environmental Health Supervisor is responsible for performing a diverse, advanced, and specialized nature

of program services. This position requires independent judgment and analysis of facts, independent actions and

decisions to be consistent with policies, general directives and regulations. The incumbent will perform more

complex and sensitive duties related to environmental health programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Plan, organize and manage reservation-wide environmental health services programs related to codes and

ordinances, epidemiology, emergency response, food sanitation, institutional health, recreational sanitation,

substandard housing, vector control, wastewater management.

 Interpret Tribal laws, codes, ordinances related to environmental health; evaluate, train staff, develop

environmental health related educational materials, write inspection reports and provide recommendations

and referrals to other departments and agencies. Prepare and present presentations to the community,

departments, and other agencies as needed.

 Provides daily supervision of the Environmental Health Specialist and Technicians; conduct performance

evaluations, schedule staff assignments, ensure the day-to-day operations meet program compliance according

to tribal codes, ordinances and program policy.

 Coordinate and collaborate with injury prevention, Office of Emergency Management and other tribal and

outside agencies.

 Prepare monthly report, semiannual and annual report and submit to Environmental Health Manager in a

timely manner.

 Conduct regular inventory of all Environmental Health program operational and office equipment, vehicles,

etc., document and identify issues/needs of all program operations and recommend and assist in mitigation of

issues. Update and develop plan, policies, SOP, codes, ordinances, program strategic plans and goals.

 Conduct reviews and evaluations of all Environmental health program services to meet the Community’s

needs; and provide recommendations of changes to regulations.

 Attend meetings, conferences and public forums; write reports and make technical presentations.

 Perform other related duties as assigned.
