Job Description

Faculty Instructor in Sciences

San Miguel Catholic High School is accepting letters of interest from qualified and highly motivated teachers for the position of Faculty Instructor in Natural Sciences (any specialization) to begin in Academic Year 2021-22.

Summary Profile

Given our schools commitment to serving high-potential young people from under-resourced communities of Tucson, who will likely be the first generation of their family to attend university, you are an instructor who demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to ensuring a college-going culture of motivation, achievement, and support for every student.

As an instructor in Natural Sciences, you will work with a team of dedicated and high-competency colleagues charged with ensuring that every student (grades 09-12) meets or exceeds the expectations for growth in content knowledge, language skills, cognitive learning skills, and academic behaviors in this area of study.

In this full-time (1.0 FTE) position, you will be responsible for five courses of Natural Sciences (specialization flexible) along with a typical array of other professional duties (campus supervision, co-curricular programs). For certain instructors simultaneously qualified in other content areas, the instructional load of this position could be shaped as a hybrid across two content areas (e.g. three courses of Natural Sciences and two courses of Mathematics). You may also elect to participate in extracurricular student activities, sports, and clubs.

Along with all instructors, you will participate in a variety of collegial programs intended to serve your professional and ministerial growth needs. You will benefit from an instructional leadership team, general onboarding coaching, an early-career instructional coach (if applicable), a technology coach, opportunities for peer observation and best-in-class professional development, a system of regular classroom observations and coaching conferences, and a team dedicated to leading personal and spiritual formation.

School Description and Mission Alignment

A full description of the mission, identity, and program offerings of San Miguel Catholic High School can be found at www.sanmiguelcristorey.org. The school is located in the Diocese of Tucson and is sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle).

As a long-standing member of the national Cristo Rey Network, the school operates with a unique work-and-study educational structure through which every student (grades 09-12) spends approximately five days per month engaged in a professional work assignment at a Tucson area business and spends the other 75 percent of ones time in college preparatory classes on campus. In order to accommodate this dual programming, the typical school day and academic year are longer than most other area high schools.

In alignment with the schools commitment to an education rooted in Catholic heritage and culture that is simultaneously college and career ready, the Instructor is likewise expected to demonstrate a personal philosophy that highly values all three of these dimensions of a San Miguel education.
