ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
A written test, physical agility test, and interviews will be conducted for quali?ed
applicants. Paramedic Certi?cation preferred.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Fire?ghter performs emergency response work in ?re ?ghting, emergency rescue, and hazardous material
response to protect the lives and properties of the members of the Gila River Indian Community. The Fire?ghter
is responsible for the safe delivery of equipment and personnel in emergency response situations, including ?re
?ghting, emergency rescue and hazardous material response. Also performs various maintenance and custodial
duties at the assigned ?re station.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in accomplishing organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives.
0 Exhibit a service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships.
- Respond with a company of ?re?ghters to incidents requiring ?re ?ghting, emergency rescue or hazardous
material response; ride on ?re truck or emergency vehicle apparatus to the emergency response scene,
ensuring that warning devices are in operation when necessary; operate and monitor equipment and apparatus,
such as pumps, hoses, gauges, air compressors, ladders, aerial platforms, emergency medical equipment, etc.,
at emergency response scenes.
0 Make forced entries into structures; searches structures; deploy attack and coverage hose lines; extinguish
?res; rescue trapped and/or injured persons; assist ?re victims; ventilate structures; secure ?re scenes; perform
salvage and overhaul operations.
- Respond to calls for emergency medical services; provide services during emergency and/or rescue operations
in accordance with protocols for Basic and Advanced Life Support; evaluate injuries and mental status; dress
wounds; immobilize fractures; take vital signs; obtain medical history; treat patients at scene and/or stabilize
and prepare patients for transport to medical facility; communicate information to hospital; triage multiple
patients; assure safety or EMS scenes.
0 Respond to car accidents; extricate patients manually or mechanically.Inspect assigned emergency response apparatus and equipment daily to ensure ef?cient operating condition
and readiness, clean and maintain equipment after completion of emergency response operations, perform
minor repairs of apparatus and equipment, and test equipment, as necessary and appropriate.Attend and participate in training sessions (i.e., ?re suppression techniques, equipment techniques, emergency
medical care, hazardous material containment, street layout and building and hydrant location, incident
command, management, inspections leadership training, etc.) and in ongoing physical training activities.
Prepare and maintain activity records, providing pertinent information to departmental personnel on following
shift; review activity reports from previous shift and confer with personnel, as necessary; organize and
maintain departmental ?les.Clean and perform minor maintenance on department buildings; maintain ?re station grounds.Inspect ?re hydrant and calculate required ?re ?ow data and ?ow testing data.Fire?ghters certi?ed as Paramedics perform the following additional duties:0 Measure and administer drug therapy to assist patients.
- Administer cardiac monitoring device and de?brillate cardiac patients.
0 Perform a variety of more advanced emergency medical duties.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of modern ?re ?ghting.Knowledge in proper use and maintenance of ?re apparatus, equipment, tools, devices, and facilities.
Knowledge of advanced ?rst aid, CPR, and other medical assistance techniques.Ability to understand and act in accordance with departmental policies, rules, instructions, and written

drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School diploma or GED and at least 18 years of age.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Certi?ed as a Fire?ghter I & II (AZ State, Pro-Board or IFSAC) or provide proof of successful completion of
a program that is compliant with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Standard for Fire
Fighter Professional Quali?cations.Certi?ed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (State of Arizona) or National Registered; must have State
card prior to hire date.Certi?ed First Responder Hazardous Materials Operations Level Course (IAFF or NFPA 472 compliant
equivalent).Required to pass a background check and ?ngerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must
continue to maintain throughout duration of employment.Required to pass a written and physical agility test; OR currently hold a Candidate Physical Agility Test
(CPAT) card with a completion date within the past 6 months.Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving recordmust be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission
