Job Description
The Fitness Instructor performs work of moderate difficulty in developing, planning and conducting exercise and
health education programs to the population of the Gila River Indian Community under the general supervision
of the Recreation Manager; also responsible for supervising events at the Wellness Center to ensure participant
safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Participate in developing and planning daily activities pertaining to aerobic and physical activities for
participants.
Supervise activities of program participants to ensure participant safety.
Teach aerobics and weight training classes.
Teach participants about nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Assist in organizing leagues.
Administer health risk appraisals and personalized fitness programs.
Monitor and evaluate progress of participants to achieving their fitness goals.
Help keep records of attendance and intake files.
Assist in the development of programs and services provided by the Center.
Teach wellness activities to all age groups (infants to seniors) with focus of program grants goals and
objectives.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY: Knowledge of the history, culture, customs and traditions of the Gila River Indian Community.
Knowledge in health, fitness and nutrition.
Knowledge of health and fitness program design and implementation.
Must be willing to travel for required certification and training.
Ability to inspire and motivate individuals through an outgoing personality.
Ability to conduct public presentations.
