DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Fitness Instructor performs work of moderate dif?culty in developing, planning and conducting exercise
and health education programs to the population of the Gila River Indian Community under the general
supervision of the Recreation Manager; also responsible for supervising events at the Wellness Center to ensure
participant safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in developing and planning daily activities pertaining to aerobic and physical activities for
participants.Supervise activities of program participants to ensure participant safety.Teach aerobics and weight training classes.Teach participants about nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.Assist in organizing leagues.Administer health risk appraisals and personalized ?tness programs.Monitor and evaluate progress of participants to achieving their ?tness goals.Help keep records of attendance and intake ?les.Assist in the development of programs and services provided by the Center.Teach wellness activities to all age groups (infants to seniors) with focus of program grants goals and
objectives.
0 Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL, AND ABILITY:Knowledge of the history, culture, customs and traditions of the Gila River Indian Community.
Knowledge in health, ?tness and nutrition.Knowledge of health and ?tness program design and implementation.Must be willing to travel for required certi?cation and training.Ability to inspire and motivate individuals through an outgoing personality.Ability to conduct public presentations.Ability to screen participants prior to participation in physical activity and to identify health problems that
may require referral to a health professional.Ability to express ideas through presentations, articles and media.Ability to write required records reports.Ability to work non-standard hours (including evenings and weekends as needed).Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Of?cials
and the public.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position and agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School diploma or GED and two (2) years professional work experience in physical ?tness and wellness
education.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Required to pass a background check and ?ngerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must
continue to maintain throughout duration of employment.Background checks are required for positions that involve regular contact with or control over Community
Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C
Sections 3201 and 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.Fitness Instructor Certi?cation preferred in Pilates, Aerobics, or Group Fitness Instructor or obtain within six
(6) months from date of hire.Current CPR & First Aid Certi?cation (or obtain within six (6) months from date of hire).Must take a basic nutrition class at an accredited college or university or attend professional training on
nutrition within one (1) year from date of hire.Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record
must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission
of the application.Non-Supervisory, Hourly Position
