Job Description

General Description of Duties:  Under the supervision and in collaboration with the Area Manager, the Head Cook/Site Supervisor is responsible for of developing, planning and serving the complete Title III nutrition service program menu on a monthly basis, and supervising the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and adheres to policy and procedures related to the preparation and serving of meals. Assist the Area Manager with the monitoring and certifying of all meal production to ensure contract compliance is met with regard to the prescribed 1/3 DRA requirements established by the Nutrition III software and State Nutritionist. Responsibilities include overseeing, preparing and serving meals as outlined by the Nutritional Program of New Mexico; Monitoring and assisting in the delivery of home delivered meals; Maintaining and cleaning the kitchen area, and ensuring all equipment is clean, working properly and safe to operate; Assists in supervising and maintaining accurate inventory controls of food and equipment.  Checks in all supplies delivered by vendors for the Kitchen Department by comparing the purchase order and the invoice for correct delivery as well as ensuring supplies are in good condition. Coordinates with Area Manager on the daily workload requirements and the kitchen staff scheduling so there are sufficient staff for full utilization during meal production. Assist in completing and maintaining all documents pertinent to the overall operations of the kitchen; May complete other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. One year experience in food preparation is required.  Must have a background in nutrition, (either through education or experience) with specific experience in vendor purchasing, menu preparation and portion control; Bilingual capacity is required; English and Spanish.  Must have basic computer skills, and have strong organizational, written, problem solving, verbal communication and time management skills.  Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, with internal and external customers of Adelante, and have the ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures.  This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, supervisors and co-workers. Have the ability to maintain harmonious, courteous, and considerate relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment with both agency employees and the public.

Other Requirements:  Must pass background/fingerprint investigation and pre-employment drug screening.  Must possess a valid NM driver’s license, and proof of auto liability insurance.  Must have own reliable transportation and agency insurable driving record.  Must be able to sit, perform keyboarding functions occasionally. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach above shoulder(s) frequently.  May be required to visit various locations in order to carry out the essential job duties.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.  Adelante is a drug free workplace.
