Definition
Under general supervision from the Practice Administrator - Residential Treatment, monitors Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) both in detox and the RTC setting of the Journey to Recovery (JTR) program, and assigns BHT duties to perform throughout the shift. Oversees the client intake process and assists in coordinating emergency medical care as needed. Problem solves client issues and behavior within the milieu while on shift. Participates in weekly clinical staffing and provides input into the clinical process. Oversees the client medication process and sets up client medisets and med sheets correctly. Manages the weekly food inventory, prepares weekly lists, and facilitates the weekly shopping process.
This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.
Withdrawal Management Setting: Provides supervision, evaluation, monitoring, and assistance for intoxicated clients with chemical dependency problems. Oversee the Withdrawal Management triage and intake process and provides Withdrawal Management services in a safe, secure and supportive environment. Ensures clients are monitored with the Q15 and CIWA process and administers critical client referral care for medical and/or emergency treatment when necessary. Oversee and assists in the discharge planning process from the Withdrawal Management setting. Works closely with the Practice Administrator and Community Health Registered Nurse regarding client medication monitoring, and in obtaining TB testing and medical clearance documentation.
Residential Treatment Setting: Provides supervision, monitoring and assistance in maintaining a safe, orderly & therapeutic Residential Treatmentenvironment. Orients clients to treatment setting and assists with activities of daily living as needed. Runs daily functioning, drug prevention, meditation, and sober support groups. Makes rounds and monitors clients activities, physical, and mental status and reports to the Practice Administrator, Clinical Manager and Counseling staff. Maintains client safety, protects client rights, and recognizes clients who are behaving aggressively, acting as a danger to themselves or others, or are in a crisis or medical emergency situation. Provides transportation, prepares meals, and maintains facility cleanliness.

Provides full administrative supervision and oversees the daily performance of all Behavioral Health Technicians (BHT's). Maintains assigned JTR oversite by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies/procedures. Participates in problem-solving and troubleshooting activities involving the BHT's and other intradepartmental and interdepartmental staff. Review goals and objectives for evaluation and training. Evaluates performance of assigned department staff, assigns training and conducts timely performance evaluations. Works with the Practice Administrator to review and approve time off while ensuring adequate coverage of all shifts Interviews, screens and evaluates clients according to the established Intake process. Observes clients for possible injuries, illnesses, or ongoing medical needs. Refers clients to a medical clinic for emergency care or regular medical treatment when necessary. Oversees client medication dosage and medicine recording including:

10. Provides supportive listening and guidance to clients with chemical dependency problems during their stay or over the telephone.
11. Provides basic group support to clients with chemical dependency problems during their stay.
12. Attends ongoing training and participates in prevention and intervention community awareness events.
13. Assists in the training of new and current staff (full-time and temporary staff) on the JTR program procedures.
14. Performs all required administrative tasks associated with the Intake and service provision process:

Education & Experience:
Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.

Tasks:
- Counts and records the number of pills in each bottle on the Medication Inventory Form, brought into the facility during the client's stay.
- Keeps all medications safely locked in the medication cabinet and maintaining a weekly count of all medication by recording on the Medication Monitoring Sheet.
- Medication distribution to the client from pharmacy/medical records and documents the date, time and number of each pill given on the Medication Administration Record.
- Consults with the Practice Administrator and Registered Nurse on any issues or observations of possible reactions of medication.
9. Provides liaison services between programs and treatment centers including referral agencies:
- Drives van and transports clients to Alcohol Education, Behavioral Health appointments and/or AA/NA meetings.
- Asist clients in obtaining medical, psychiatric or housing placement.
10. Provides supportive listening and guidance to clients with chemical dependency problems during their stay or over the telephone.
11. Provides basic group support to clients with chemical dependency problems during their stay.
12. Attends ongoing training and participates in prevention and intervention community awareness events.
13. Assists in the training of new and current staff (full-time and temporary staff) on the JTR program procedures.
14. Performs all required administrative tasks associated with the Intake and service provision process:
- Types correspondence and makes photocopies as needed.
- Scan documents in the electronic health record.
- Completes all intake forms and facility documents as required.
- Helps assess the need for facility supplies and completes requisitions for food/non-food items.
- Helps maintain inventory and shops for supplies when necessary.
- Maintains upkeep of the JTR facility as required by program regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping and mopping the floors plus changing sheets on the facility beds, etc.
15. Monitors BHT staff on shift and completes assigned tasks specific to the supervisor role.
16. Performs other job duties as assigned by the Practice Administrator, or the Chief Behavioral Health Officer to maintain and enhance program operation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions and history of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of First-Aid methods and CPR techniques.
- Knowledge of performing vital signs and assessing results.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, chronic medical illnesses and their basic symptoms.
- Knowledge of the effects of alcohol consumption and long-term effects of alcohol and substance dependency.
- Knowledge of the Withdrawal management and Residential Treatment Center programs, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic computer software including MS Office, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Skill assessing and evaluating emergency situations and using emergency procedures.
- Skill following complex verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the clients, SRPMIC staff and the public.
- Skill operating a variety of standard office equipment including photocopiers, FAX machines, printers, scanner and copier to fulfill job requirements.
- Skill with verbal and written communication and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, clients, families, community groups and health professionals.
- Skill managing various employee types in stressful situations.
- Ability to use effective time management skills, including simultaneously oversee numerous aspects of the day-to-day operation, effectively prioritizing tasks, making and adhering to deadlines, and assisting other staff with their work.
- Ability to maintain accurate and timely program records, according to prescribed standards.
- Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles including, but not limited to, a fifteen (15) person van.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- One (1) year work experience that includes lead or supervisor responsibilities required.
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and minimum requirement of four years of relevant experience in an emergency medical or behavioral health setting, OR an Associate's degree and two years of relevant experience in an emergency medical or behavioral health setting; OR a bachelor's degree (related or non-related) in the behavioral health field plus one year of relevant experience in a behavioral health setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to behavioral health totaling four years is acceptable.
- Knowledge of behavioral management, de-escalation methods, crisis intervention, and defusing techniques to prevent violent behavior harmful to self or others and the ability to apply these techniques to a client population in various levels of crisis.
- Academic & working knowledge of DSM IV, community resources, clinical methods and procedures and application of the same. Residential experience, knowledge of psychotropic medications.
- Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to perform duties with a minimum of supervision.
- Certification as a Behavioral Health Technician is preferred.
- Must have current certification in First Aid and CPR
- Must undergo provided training on Universal Precautions and Infectious Control within 2 weeks of hire date.
