Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a HR Specialist, on 1st shift at our Mt. Airy, NC manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for providing support to the Division Human Resources Manager on payroll processing and all personnel matters.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to assist with day-to-day operations and functions within the Human Resources department.

Your additional responsibilities as HR Specialist will include:

  • Process and verify weekly payroll.
  • Place job bid notices and position ads and recruit for all hourly positions.
  • Administer pre-employment drug screens, background checks, planning and conducting new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward company goals and
  • Maintain rewards program.
  • Create and maintain personnel files, personnel transactions (PANs) for new hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensuring policies, procedures, and reporting are incompliance.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the HR Manager or Division Manager


  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of Human Resources experience and One (1) to two (2) years experience in payroll.
  • Principles, practices, and/or office procedures of Human Resources.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Exhibit a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and problem solving.
  • Customer service oriented with a team player attitude to help with additional duties within the company, as needed.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work appropriately.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • SAP/Kronos experience desired.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
