DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The Information Systems Manager is responsible for managing, administering, and supervising the Information

Systems Division. Employees of this class are expected to exercise a high degree of independence, initiative, and

professional data processing expertise in the administration of the Information Systems Division. An important

aspect is the administrative and supervisory nature and the responsibility of all information systems functions,

including mini and microcomputers, local and wide area network, and geographical information systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Direct, oversee, and participate in developing systems design, computer programming, information systems

operations, computer communications, and networking.

 Responsible for the proper procedures, policies, and operations of the Information Systems Division, which

includes the areas of mini and micro computers, local area, and wide area network services, geographical

systems and fund accounting.

 Confer with divisional, departmental, and business representatives regarding conversion from manual to

automated processes and discuss revision of procedures, systems development, timing of conversions, costs

and other problems involved in providing information technology (IT) services.

 Install and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on PCS, printers, terminals, and data

communications equipment.

 Supervise support systems on tasks such as backups, report distribution, problem resolution and

administration of the computer security function.

 Responsible for enforcing compliance with policies and procedures and confidentiality of all data as they

pertain to this position.

 Combine expertise in computer technology to design and/or implement Automated Data Processing and/or

Geographic Information applications; responsible for recommending purchase and requisition of Automated

Data Processing and Geographic Information Systems hardware, software and peripherals.

 Keep current on advances in technology and changes in various regulations and procedures related to

Automated Data Processing and/or Geographic Information Systems.

 Perform other related duties as assigned.
