Job Description
General Purpose of the Position |
The Instructional Designer will create engaging learning activities and compelling course content for the organization. They will work closely with subject matter experts at identifying target audiences training needs. This role will apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods. Overall the role will facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.
This role will also support organization project work by serving as a training consultant to determine learning needs, develop and design instructional materials, and assess effectiveness of learning acquisition.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. May perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer
- Work with subject matter experts and identify target audiences training needs
- State instructional end goals and create content that matches them
- Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product
- Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts
- Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
- Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process
- Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games, etc.)
- Decide on the criteria used to judge learners performance and develop assessment instruments
- Maintain project documentation and course folders
- Participates on organization-wide projects as training SME
Requirements |
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BS in instructional design, educational technology or similar. MA preferred. At least 3-5 years proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology. Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models. Lesson and curriculum planning skills. Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System. Visual design skills and ability to storyboard. Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts/video scripts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to sit for long periods. The employee continually is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Limited travel required to visit CU locations as needed.
