Position Description

The Town of Marana is seeking an Irrigation Control Technician to work in the Parks and Recreation Department. This is a full-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone interested in having a positive impact on the Town's central irrigation control system.

Expected Hiring Range: $20.65 - $25.30 per hour
Salary Range: $20.65 - $29.94 per hour

  • Performs daily inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and repairs of equipment and irrigation systems
  • Monitors, schedules, and coordinates renovation and repair of irrigated landscape, including park, urban spaces, streetscapes, and medians.
  • Consults with architects for new and renovation projects; designs irrigation systems renovations, new installations, and directs work teams during construction.
  • Conducts irrigation water audits; recommends soil and horticultural practices for better use of water
  • Reviews plans and specifications for layout and irrigation valve locations, controllers, and wiring.
  • Installs irrigation piping, valves, emission devices, and controllers; programs and tests completed irrigation systems for proper functioning of valves, controller, and emission devices
  • Locates, excavates, and repairs or replaces damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Plans and orders necessary parts and equipment and ensures appropriate supply stock is maintained.
  • Performs irrigation water audits, gathers site data, and verifies proper working conditions.
  • Maintain pumps, repairs, and programs controls.
  • Test, maintains and repairs cross-connection devices.
Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency plus six months of additional education or training
  • Over three years of progressive experience in landscape/irrigation, public works, parks maintenance or related field
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Irrigation Technician Certification or must obtain within 6 months
  • Valid Arizona driver license
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, a 50-pound lift test and audiogram
  • Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with design and/or maintenance of irrigation systems
  • Arizona Backflow Tester Certification
  • Irrigation Auditor Certification
