Manage the activities and personnel in all the network and server work groups of the Information Technology (IT) Department, manage the design, acquisition, development, installation, testing, and monitoring of County networks, servers, and storage, prioritize work functions, resolve problems, and design and implement network and server solutions under general supervision Example of Duties
This position is not covered under the Pinal County Merit System. Incumbents in this position serve at the pleasure of their respective Appointing Authority. The employment relationship of incumbents in this position is "at will" and the employee may be terminated at any time, for any reason, with or without cause.
TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serve as primary advisor to Pinal County on computer networks and communication technology systems and evaluate operations and recommend methods to improve overall IT systems and services.
- Manage and prioritize projects, resolve problems, and manage the design and implementation of network and server solutions including networking, security, active directory, storage, internal cloud, administration tools, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
- Plan projects to assure accomplishment of goals and objectives, evaluate trends, anticipate problems, and design solutions.
- Meet with system stakeholders and other IT resources to discuss project updates and solve problems.
- Plan and manage the activities of assigned staff, prioritize and assign tasks and projects, train and coach staff, monitor work, develop staff skills, and evaluate performance, and review the work of staff to assure the work quality and timely completion of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Monitor infrastructure system environment, access, security, functionality, and utilization, resolve traffic, security, and access problems, assure optimum performance and system integrity, detect and correct software errors, and maintain system stability, data integrity, and maximum uptime.
- Serve as subject matter expert on the network and server systems and prepare special and recurring reports and proposals for projects, hardware, software, and other infrastructure development plans.
- Coordinate work with other County departments and consult with users to identify concerns and develop project proposals, objectives, and scope of work.
- Manage budget and expenditures, approve requests for software, supplies, and equipment, compile and analyze a variety of reports and usage statistics, and review and approve administrative forms.
- Sets a consistent positive example of teamwork, communication, and customer service within the organization.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Associates degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Six (6) years experience in enterprise level network and server support.
- Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
- Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
- Valid Arizona State Drivers License.
- CCNA Routing and Switching or higher certification
- CCNA Security or higher certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Storage Area Networks and Server Virtualization (VMWare).
- Knowledge of local area networks and wide area networks.
- Knowledge of backup and monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of telecommunication systems.
- Knowledge of project management principles, tools, and techniques.
- Knowledge of existing Pinal County software applications, hardware, and infrastructure, including maintenance and integration issues.
- Knowledge of principles of IT infrastructure system development and systems integration in a public sector environment.
- Knowledge of management principles for network operating domains, database systems integration, and documentation of data sets.
- Knowledge of Cisco networking infrastructure, Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft Server 2008 and newer.
- Skill in analyzing complex data and information system problems, evaluating alternatives, and recommending methods, procedures, and techniques for resolution of technical issues.
- Skill in designing, installing, administering, and optimizing servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various applications.
- Skill in planning, designing, and developing local area networks and wide area networks.
- Ability to work independently in a technical environment with interlinked and changing priorities.
- Ability to effectively communicate technically complex instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone. Position may require physical exertion of up to 20 pounds for pushing and up to 10 pounds for lifting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in an indoor office environment.
