DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Lead Fitness Instructor is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of ?tness
programs, events and monitoring of client tracking in compliance with program requirements as applicable. This
position is to implement a community based ?tness and wellness program to promote through various outlets
within the Community to increase physical activity among the population of the Gila River Indian Community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
0 Supervise the Wellness Center or District Fitness instructors, depending on location of position, and oversee
all program planning in regards to ?tness classes and physical activity events.

- Participate in developing and planning daily activities pertaining to cardiovascular and strength training
activities for clientele. Oversee the class scheduling and ?tness events throughout the community and/or
districts.
0 Assist with staff scheduling, and offer input when it comes to hiring, training and additional operational and
program development responsibilities.
0 Keep records, conduct reports based on client ?tness assessment as well as attendance and intake ?les.
Monitor and evaluate programs of participants achieving their ?tness goals. Ensure that all ?tness instructors
seek out current ?tness certi?cations and CPR & First Aid certi?cation.
0 Assist in the development of programs and services provided by the center. Ensure the safety and
effectiveness of all ?tness classes.
0 Assist in teaching ?tness classes and wellness activities to all age groups with focus on programs goals and
objectives. Teach participants about nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
0 Assist in the support and coordination between the Wellness Center and other Tribal entities in the delivery
of services. (Only applies to Wellness Center)0 Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:

- Knowledge of practices, methods, procedures and techniques as it relates to ?tness program design in order
to serve as a departmental leader to other ?tness instructors and other departments.
0 Knowledge in health, ?tness and nutrition.
0 Knowledge of basic instructions in order to provide members on proper exercise techniques and ?tness
equipment usage in a safe and effective manner0 Maintain a neat and professional appearance according to departmental uniform guidelines.
0 Ability to schedule ?tness appointments and perform ?tness consultations

- Ability to actively participate in community campaigns, etc.
0 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, Community Of?cials
and the public.
0 Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

- Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a closely
related ?eld and a minimum of four (4) years experience in physical ?tness and/or wellness education, and
which includes one (1) year lead/ supervisory experience; Or0 Six (6) years experience in physical ?tness and/or wellness education and which includes one (1) year of
lead/supervisory experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:


- Required to a pass background check and ?ngerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must
continue to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that
involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child
Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63
and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.

- Fitness Instructor Certi?cation [certi?cation preferred in Pilates, Aerobics, or Group Fitness Instructor] or
must be able to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire and maintain throughout employment.
0 Current CPR & First Aid Certi?cation or must be able to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire and
