Job Description

The Supply Chain, Materials Management department, seeks a Supply Chain Manager who, under administrative direction, manages, plans and oversees various supply chain functions for the university. Qualified candidate should possess a strong background in inventory management, logistics, warehouse operations, MRO procurement and production/inventory planning.

Essential Duties

  • Serves as departmental project manager in the design, development and implementation of projects, programs, and systems.
  • Establishes and continually monitors/manages project expectations with team; assigns tasks and identifies issues for resolution to ensure optimal team effectiveness.
  • Oversees activities related to inventory planning, inventory management, SKU/part management, and other activities related to the control of materials purchased and/or stored in ASU warehouses.
  • Builds/designs material resource planning templates methodologies.
  • Maintains and is responsible for inventory turns, slow moving inventory, and SKU management.
  • Directly manages, develops and supervises a supply chain team, which may include supervisors, leads, buyers, material handlers and student workers.
  • Responsibilities include hiring, performance management, professional development, work assignments, route planning and scheduling.
  • Markets and promotes Materials Management supply chain services to internal stakeholders and departments in support of key university initiatives.
  • Manages and develops supply chain personnel to meet the fast-paced delivery and service expectations of the university.
  • Develops, monitors and measures key performance indicators and identifies issues for resolution insuring optimal team effectiveness.
  • Participates in departmental strategic planning and the development and attainment of departmental goals and initiatives.
  • Resolves operational problems and issues affecting the department and recommends long-term solutions and improvements.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain or related field AND five (5) years of related administrative/supply chain experience, which includes two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.   


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement and inventory principles and practices.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement and warehouse management related systems.
  • Experience using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.


Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (80%).
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Activities may also performed in a warehouse environment (20%).Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • Drives University vehicle and/or cart to campus site.
  • Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
